Football League Diamond Anniversary

In 1948 Charlton Athletic, along with every other Football League club, were given this cast iron and enamel plaque
Ours hasn't lasted as well as well as others, possibly because Charlton took it off its wooden mount and, we believe, hung it outside.
It's now in the museum.
To restore or not restore?

At least ours was treated better than Accrington Stanley's.
Theirs was left on the Peel Park pitch in 1962 when they left the League although it is probably a staged photo.

I wouldn't restore it if I was you. It's current state looks more characterful. It also says something about Charlton as a club, that it hasn't always looked after its assets as well as it might.5

I think it should be restored.1

My vote - a combination of both. Have a new cast made and mounted - display the original alongside the reproduction - "The original shield on the left was presented to the club in 1948. At an unknown date, the plaque was removed from its original mount and displayed outside [insert location if known]. The Museum acquired the shield from XXXXX in XXXX. The reproduction on the right was made in 2026 by xxxxxxx to show how the shield would have looked in 1948"
The cost of the reproduction can replace the cost of the restoration (hopefully net neutral) and you have the best of both worlds and a decent story.2 -
Keep it original2

Leave it as it is ... then nick the Reading one and change the club's name so we match the smart-looking one.
