MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Stoke City : Wednesday 11th February 2026 : KO 19:45
Good evening fellow Addicks
So tonight we enter the second episode in the very important trilogy of home matches we have now got, and tonight under The Valley floodlights Stoke City roll into town currently sitting in 13th spot, 5 places above us on 43 points, but certainly beatable based on their recent history.
As we know, Josh Edwards and Harvey Knibbs remain long-term absentees, while a late call will be made on Miles Leaburn, let's hope he's fit and ready to go, Stoke will be without Bazunu, Johansson, Tchamadeu, Baker, Ampah, Boženík, Gallagher and Mubama.
Of our 65 previous encounters, we've won 25, the Potters 28, and the remaining 12 ending all square, The Potters were 3-0 victors in the reverse fixture in November 2025, so we owe them don't we, I will say that I am quietly hopeful about tonight, and we really do need to push on while teams around us continue to drop points…
Anthony Backhouse will be the man in the middle tonight…
Team …Matty Godden will make his first start of the tonight
Godden replaces Charlie Kelman, who moves to the bench, as Nathan Jones makes one change from the team that drew with Queens Park Rangers at The Valley on Friday night.
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell once again make up a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coady, captain Greg Docherty and Sonny Carey playing in midfield behind Godden and Lyndon Dykes.
Kelman is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Collins Sichenje, Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Jayden Fevrier and Tyreece Campbell.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Bell; Clarke, Coady, Dochetry (c), Carey, Chambers; Godden, Dykes
Subs: Mannion, Gillesphey, Sichenje, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Fevrier, Campbell, Kelman

Hope the midfield has the legs or we make early subs there to freshen it up before they tire. This was the key problem on Friday IMO. Lost midfield from about 70 mins7

Still no Miles on the bench is a worry8

Has @bobmunro taken up the offer of directors box tickets from his old guvnors?

“Reece just picked up a minor thing, so we didn’t risk him,” said Jones. “Reece has had an injection, which we hope will clear everything up.”

I like it. He looked lively against Leicester. Struggled against QPR but we had lost the midfield by the time he came on. Dykes was having to drop so deep he ended up isolated. From the start I reckon he has more chance to influence the game. Kelman or TC on for him at 60 mins.DDOUBLEE said:Godden from the off is certainly a choice.3 -

If our midfield can’t outrun 60 year old Stephen Nzoni we are bang it trouble 😅cantersaddick said:Hope the midfield has the legs or we make early subs there to freshen it up before they tire. This was the key problem on Friday IMO. Lost midfield from about 70 mins1 -
I love Matty. Just think he still needs to get up to speed a little bit more. Would have started Kelman who didn't seem to do much wrongTheHerminator said:

Nice to see Josh Edwards. Not so nice to see the two crutches and foot boot. He was in good spirits.8

About the best 11 you'd could pick from the players available.
Only question is....is there enough quality to produce the chances/score the goals.
Only time will tell.

Think I would have stuck with Kelman but hope Godden proves me wrong by smashing one in!1

Just visited the club shop to, finally, get my grandsons shirt named and numbered, had to wait for the Stoke kit man printing Rak Sakyi's yellow shirt, true story, big fecker too, the kit man, not Rak Sakyj.4

If he’s now fully fit with who we have available someone has to miss out. We don’t need Sichenje and Burke on the bench.Leuth said:
