Realty check time we are in the championship of have people forgotten that fact … every game is tough game every team apart from the 3 promoted teams have a year or two head start on us ,unfortunately the two other teams that got promoted are trying to buy success but their day will come … but normally the three teams that come up are in and around the bottom 5 fighting for their lives .. so to be where we are and if two relegation positions almost taken care off , this could be our biggest achievement in our history. . Tomorrow it’s Premiership v League one Southampton away forget where both teams are latest results etc etc this is one of the toughest away games we will face this season .. it’s a free hit for us we not expected to get anything and you can only see a defeat … 2-0 Southampton

Team news unchanged reckon he will stick with Dykes and Leaburn as it’s an away fixture …

He won't get that far, going to be scoring 3x30 yard screamers. One goes in off Ramsay's arse, one off through Kaminski's legs and the other Kaminski palms off Lloyd jones's head right into the top corner

I will agree with FA's team selection but I would expect Nathan Jones will have given certain players, who, on Tuesday night did not do their jobs, a dressing down. Kaminski, Clarke and Chambers were very poor and certainly owe the travelling support a performance. Hopefully, Leigh Doughty, or any other referee with his attitude to a challenge is a million miles from St Mary's as that will give us some hope of putting our stamp on the game. The lack of natural wing backs, helped us produce a dreadful first half performance in the home fixture, with Rob Apter and O-no Hernandez being shoe horned in to get scorched against the Saints. If Clarke and Chambers produce a similar performance as Tuesday night then we will get beaten, If we can keep it tight, then we have a chance, but we need a redeeming performance to do so. Another defeat, I'm afraid.

For someone who seems to live for the us against them mentality, rant and rave in front of the camera and will hold a grudge into the next life, NJ seems to completely crumble when that spotlight on him turns into a supernova. And Southampton will be burning a hole through his soul.

Would like to see Dykes - Kelman starting, but Kelman scoring a couple rather than running around outside the box like a headless chicken seems to have pissed NJ off so will take Dykes - TC as the front two. Coady probably needs the rest so Coventry back in.

A marginally improved performance but a 2-0 loss

Got 2 spare adult tickets in block 25, will be in Southampton pretty central from midday onwards if anyone wants them?

I'd like to see TC and (assuming he's fully fit) Coventry start. Hopefully we can stay in the game as long as possible and give ourselves a chance of nicking a result. It'll be a tough afternoon and our wing-backs will have their work cut out trying to contain Scienza and his teammates although, as ever, we travel in hope.

Gonna be interesting to hear of the southampton home support are louder than their away support. Reckon there will be a fair few extra Jones haters about

If you need proof that he’s a WUM.

Biggest Achievement? You’re definitely not Charlton!

Must pick-up at least a point after Blackburn winning tonight.

Their appeal might give them six points back, so that’s enough of a reason for me.

Might get worse for them as well though... Works both ways... Cant be worrying about what hasn't happened yet

The most likely outcome is for it to get put on hold whilst they go through the process, so we need to pick up points rather than relying on that.

Genuinely fearing the worst for this one. If we go man for man across the pitch like we did at home, they’re going to tear us apart again.

The only two things that makes me feel it will be different are:
    1) we have picked up wins at Sheffield United, Ipswich, and Leicester, all in theory clubs who would have expected to be strong this season. However, it’s turned out that only one of them is and that in itself shows how crazy this league is.
    2) in the home game we started with Hernandez and Apter as wing-backs and it exposed the outside centre backs so much as well as Coventry didn’t know where to go to cover space or track his man. In the end neither happened and our defence (whole team) fell apart. This time we have proper wing-backs and defenders first. We shouldn’t be so wide open.

Really believe the away support tomorrow is going to have to be out of this world as the hate Jones will get from Saints fans is going to make your ears ring it’ll be so loud.

I’d like to see TC have a proper go at Bree. I feel we know his weaknesses defensively and the pace of TC could really hurt him. It’s important we stretch play as much as we can tomorrow and that includes using Fevrier effectively when he is on the pitch.

Their best player is without a doubt Scienza so it’s important that Clarke and Ramsay are on it and communicate well. He glides passed players so can’t afford either to pick up a yellow card.

I might be in the minority but I’m not sold on Dykes. For me he isn’t strong enough or occupies the centre backs enough. He scored a great goal at Leicester and played well against QPR, but there’s just something that doesn’t quite convince me yet. I don’t actually believe he is a proper target man either. He’s good in the air but he’s not someone who is going to bully a centre back or get the better of him 90% of the time. Think he’d be better suited if he had lots of movement around him and not having the ball lumped up to him most of the time.

One change to the squad as Burke comes in for Gillesphey. One change to the team with TC in for Leaburn. The team is so one paced and predictable when we don’t have players like TC and Fevrier playing. I can’t see Jones having Burke, Sichenje, and Coady all on the bench so Coady’s leadership and protection of space to limit what Azaz and Scienza can exploit is what keeps him in the team. He’s also good in the air so for set-pieces will be important, attacking and defending.

    Kaminski
    Clarke Ramsay Jones Bell Chambers
    Coady Docherty
    Carey
    Dykes TC

Mannion, Burke, Sichenje, Coventry, Rakin-Costello, Berry, Fevrier, Kelman, Leaburn

Agree with a lot of that as usual @Sage but to say Dykes isn’t a proper target man but would work better with more runners is ignoring the fact that a good target man needs runners. He is one of the best aerial strikers in the division, has a high touch rate and a decent creation rate, he can’t be expected to do it all himself

  • Let’s not forget last season we were two leagues apart. Our season isn’t defined on games like this. Even a loss which I’m expecting we are still in a decent position

    Loss -

    2-0

    More singing at our manager.

This has been such a rough season.

Consistently unable to pull away from the danger zone.

    Agree with this.

I had a feeling, against the grain, that we would get a reaction and result at Leicester (them being poor and losing to Oxford helped me believe that) but I can’t see the same tomorrow.

Expecting a 2-0 defeat, hoping for a 1-1 draw, would be delighted with a 0-1 win.
  • Just got to keep them out for 30=40 minutes and build from there.Early goal and we have had it.Really think Mannion  should come in,Kaminski making too many elementary errors.

I did say he’s good in the air and has played well in games. I just don’t believe he’s actually a target man despite his stats showing he’s good in the air. For me, a target man is someone you can hit, the ball stick because he’s stronger and better than the defender, someone who can get others into play by holding it up, bringing it down and moving the team up the pitch. For me a target man is not someone who you can lump it to and flick it on. Which is what we do. That is the difference to what I’m saying, and why I said he needs movement and like you say runners. Because he wins his aerial battles and flick ons as we’ve seen with TC’s goal against Stoke and other chances created (Clarke’s in the first minute the other night). However, what I mean is that I think his game is more than that and because we lump it to him, I’m yet to see it which is why I’m not totally sold yet. He’s useful and with more movement and players closer to him (the gap between him and Leaburn at times against Portsmouth was absolutely huge), he’ll prove to be more useful. That’s the point I made.
  • Think they're gonna have too much for our midfield. 3-0 defeat.
  • Leicester (22nd) and West Brom (21st) complete their Saturday lunchtime games before we kick off. Blackburn (20th) play tonight.
Blackburn beat Preston. Now the fun starts.
