Good afternoon fellow Addicks.

Welcome to todays Match Thread when we are back on our travels once more with a trip to the South Coast where Southampton await us at The St Mary's Stadium, this is gonna be a toughie make no mistake, they are on a good run at the moment of three straight wins and unbeaten in the last five currently sitting in 10th spot, two points outside the top six. We can all remember the home game, but that has gone now, and we will need to really show up today to get anything out of the game.

Re player availability, Reece Burke is available, but Josh Edwards, Harvey Knibbs, and Matty Godden are all sidelined, for the hosts, Alex McCarthy, Mads Roerslev, and Jay Robinson remain sidelined.

We've met on 64 previous occasions, winning 18, the Saints 29 and the remaining 17 encounters ending in draws, as we all know Southampton ran out 5-1 at The Valley in November 2025.

We'll be sporting the charcoal Reebok third kit on the south coast…🤦‍♂️

John Busby will be the man in the middle this weekend…

Team up…Collins Sichenje will make his Charlton debut this afternoon.

Tyreece Campbell returns to the starting line-up as Nathan Jones makes two changes from the team that took on Portsmouth in midweek as Harry Clarke and Miles Leaburn move to the bench.

It means Kenyan international Sichenje is likely to join Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.

Kayne Ramsay and Luke Chambers are likely to operate as wing-backs with Conor Coady, captain Greg Docherty and Sonny Carey making up a midfield three behind Lyndon Dykes and Campbell.

Clarke and Leaburn join Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Jayden Fevrier and Charlie Kelman on the substitutes bench.

Charlton: Kaminski; Sichenje, Jones, Bell; Ramsay, Coady, Docherty (c), Carey, Chambers; Dykes, Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Gillesphey, Clarke, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Fevrier, Leaburn, Kelman

I don't think we'll win, and that's not a knee-jerk reaction to Pompey. Just think that some games in this division will be a step too far especially away from home. Would absolutely take a point now, but you never know if So'ton get an early red like other teams have against us but would be foolish to keep expecting that to happen. 2-0 Southampton.
  • Head says a hard fought loss.  But maybe just maybe if we can keep it tight at the back ... a hero will emerge...
  • We can win….‘course we can 🙏

1-0 loss. Heads lost by the usual crowd, despite a much improved performance, with a host of on target efforts from the strikers countered by a GK having their game of the season.

    Irrelevant.

If your team are unable to win based on a kit... It's clearly Nathan Jones' fault. According to some on here anyway.
  • By the way, Godden has been abducted by aliens ok…👍

Well, you cannot blame Jones for dropping Clarke. Shame Berry is still making the bench though.

Ramsay and Sichenje on the right to lock down Scienza and TC and Chambers to overload Bree is clearly the plan

    That is ultra defensive.

Soon we’ll be starting 9 CBs and Dykes

The only way we get something out of this game. If we go attacking they will tear us apart.

Is that a goal you're referring to... Or him taking James Bree's head off?

So we lose one game, and now according to X...the "midfield doesn't work", the same midfield that beat Leicester and Stoke? FFS

I also don't see how this is any more defensive than our previous 4 games, it's one defender replacing another defender and a striker/winger for a striker up front???
