Please give your views on the proposed play-off changes (2 minute survey)
Please give your views on this via CAST's two minute survey - results will be shared with the club ahead of the vote
Clubs will vote at an EFL meeting in early March on a possible change to the Championship play-off format from next season adding two more teams, down to eighth in the table at the end of the league season.
The new proposal, according to The Athletic, would mean the team that finishes fifth plays the eighth-placed team and sixth meets seventh in one-off ties at the home ground of the higher finishing club.
The winners would then progress to a two-legged semi-final tie against the teams who finished in third and fourth, before the final at Wembley for a place in the Premier League.
We'd like to get the views of Addicks fans on these proposals and will share the results with the club ahead of the vote. This survey is open to all Charlton fans for a week and takes just two minutes to complete so please do it now:
At Charlton we have a fantastic record in play-off finals - victors four times and lifelong memories banked. However, we also know from experience that the season in the higher division after promotion brings specific challenges given the size of the step up and limited time to prepare - we're in the midst of that right now of course.
Please take two minutes to give your views before 28 February. We will share the findings with the club and the results will be published on castrust website and shared on social media.

Done. Extending the playoffs to include 7th and 8th place teams is a great idea. 5th and 6th place teams are usually the make-weight teams so giving them the extra competitive game will make the two leg play off semi-finals more competitive. Shame it’s not in place this season.8

I'm surprised they aren't proposing all the top half go into the playoffs for promotion and all the bottom half go into the playoffs for relegation that would make the end of season more exciting 🤣8 -

Thanks for doing it. We can but try to get fans’ views across. Clubs and governing bodies are getting better at consulting on important topics - though whether or not they listen is yet to be determined!LargeAddick said:As if what we say will make one iota of difference. But done anyway.1 -

You laugh - or rather someone else did- but several other European leagues do this. It started in Belgium, the country that brought us Roland Duchatelet. However these leagues are smaller - a lot smaller- in club numbers than the so called Championship. And they don’t have two cup competitions on top. One big league that doesnt do this is 2. Bundesliga. The only playoff is between the team finishing 3rd and the team finishing 3rd bottom in 1. Bundesliga. This 2nd league has higher a level of customer satisfaction (irony warning) than the Championship; last season the average attendance was significantly higher. But of course there, the “customers” own their clubs…southamptonaddick said:Done

Done - the play-offs were a great idea to keep teams' seasons alive and reduce the number of dead rubbers, but I feel that this potential extension of them is a bridge too far.
It's essentially replicating the system in the National League, although there - rather scandalously - only one team is automatically promoted and those finishing 2nd to 7th have to fight it out in the play-offs.0 -
Done, am dead against it0
