  • Hilarious if we end up signing Coady after what Jones has said he wants to add to the midfield.

I’m sure he’d like to add prime Parker and Jensen into the midfield , maybe with Kinsella and Graham Stuart off the bench.

  • Radek Vitek wants a loan or a permanent move. I'd imagine he'll get a chance in the prem but would be a great signing.

I’d be chuffed to get Coady back. We know exactly what he can do and although he might not be the answer to us being more attacking we have to accept that in an awful lot of games we’ll still be well and truly on the back foot.
Can you teach me how to be easily pleased .  I don’t mean that as a criticism.
It's based on an acceptance that we are Charlton Athletic and we aren't going to be going out and buying Rodri this summer. An extreme example perhaps but for some reason a lot of our fans assume that we're getting relegated unless we spend £10m on every signing

Conor Coady would be great to have back, calm and steady, good around the dressing room. If it suits all parties it makes sense.
    I agree

He spoke about specific traits he wants to add to the midfield - Coady possesses none of them

    I agree with you .
  • Arsenal interested in signing Konsa. That should generate a decent training fee for us if it happens.

Yes I understand our financial limitations entirely .  I also know that sinking into league one will be a disaster and we weren’t far off last season.  I don’t think what we’ve brought in solves that , thus far , and neither do I think Coady adds to it .  I remember the premier league era vividly - I don’t expect it to come back.

    Any one know how much?

I think that only works with transfers abroad rather than from English club to English club

I think we all agree that we have to improve on our midfield from last season. But having Coady & Coventry as our two choices for DM isn't any improvement.
  • What a ruthless summer it would be if both Dykes & Coady returned!

Epic stuff from NJ & PC if that happened.

So it’s a choice then. One or the other ?

Was one of them not more quality on the ball? I wouldn’t sign Coady but it can’t really be argued that he doesn’t have more quality on the ball than the rest of our squad

This right. It’s the “solidarity fee”, which is where 5% of any fee is set aside for clubs involved in a players development from 12 to 23, but only if player moves to a different country.

Only chance of a fee is if our sell-on clause when he went to Brentford included a percentage of profit clause. So if Brentford are entitled to any uplift if Konya goes, we would get a share of that.

    Don’t hold your breath.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have Coady in our lineup at all. He didn't put a foot wrong throughout his spell with us.
  • If we are playing 4-2-3-1 Rak Sakyi is the missing piece for me.
Karlan Grant has taken that spot on the right of the three. We cannot afford to keep one of them on the bench.

  • Personally I don’t see any problem having Coady sitting as a defensive midfielder when we’re away from home and under the cosh. At home for that matter.

If Apter is going to stay, then to encourage a move in January I would make him a fixture (as over aged?) in the U21’s.

He is too frail for u-21 football. Is he allowed to play for the u-18s?
  • Conor Coady is keen to return. However, a return is very unlikely to happen as things stand
Really? I'd welcome it but never thought it was a possibility because he has a young family that he wouldn't want to be away from.

Why is the move unlikely to happen as things stand?
Two months at home with the kids, and he's desperate to get away from them for a bit of peace and quiet  ;)

Exactly, the fact is we have a similar war of attrition type season ahead and players that have a bit of nous and experience with that calming effect on those around them will do no harm at all for the big battles ahead.

Even that he spent as much of as possible in the 5 Live studio in Salford
  • The next 3/4 signings have to improve our creativity / penetration / attacking play - nothing against them as such but the likes of coady, dykes and leaburn - seem to be the main topics of discussion since Grant signed - will have very little bearing on that - keep leaburn and sign coady and dykes and we are fooked. Coady and dykes were sticking plasters and unless Leaburn transforms into a raging bull, i can't see him having a future in the championship.
  • I wish we could find another Mark Kinsella and John Robinson type of player.
The good old days they were a joy to watch.
  • You want Coady when your back is against the wall - I agree with that consensus, but I think we should at least try to aspire to be better than a ‘back against the wall’ team whenever we’re away from home.

I am not ITK and purely a hunch but I think that our hands are severely tied.  This will be shown to be right or wrong come the end of this transfer window.
Either way, we're in a MUCH better place now than the day before Jones took over, so I am grateful for small mercies.
I am going soft and more tolerant in my old age.

Take a look at the teams in The Championship this coming season. Their resources compared to ours. Their squads compared to ours. I’d love to think we’ll improve on last years final position but it’s going to be tougher. Much tougher in my opinion. I’d bite your hand off for 18th. If you don’t think that we’ll be backs to the wall pretty often I admire your optimism.
