We have Kelman*, Godden, Leaburn, and probably Mbick* and Tanto ahead of him as a lone #9. Kanu plays best as part of a front two. If you play a front two, you can add Grant, TC, and maybe Alli to that list of "players ahead of him." The harm is not cashing in on a player in the final year of his contract where there is seemingly no desire (thus far at least) to sign a new deal.The Red Robin said:

Chalobah definitely did enough there for us to keep having a look at him
He’s been at Sheffield Wednesday this summer and has played for them in friendlies, so fitness-wise he doesn’t seem far behind and managed 60 minutes tonight
There’s the obvious huge question mark around his injury record which still puts me off tbh but he definitely looked good enough for it to become one to think about21 -
After watching that, I reckon we are not as far off as I may have believed to stay up.
Billy the kid and Mesík impressed me. Karlan looks useful.
If we sign Kamara as that right sided option (as we looked so left heavy sided) two new CMs, Dykes and extend Lloydy + Ramsay, I reckon that will be a decent window overall.

A shame Apter is injured, as these last 2 games would have been a great opportunity for him to show if he's got what it takes to play in that vacant right wing slot.17

Would definitely take Chalobah based on tonight and the Wednesday game. Seemed a really clear step up in quality, completely assured in front of the back line, tidy in possession, just calmly playing it forward through the lines and also seemed to be all over the pitch.
Obviously the big question mark is ability to stay fit but interesting just to see what we look like with some real quality there. I like Cov generally but that really made him look pretty poor by comparison.12 -
In the same way losing 2-0 to Wimbledon didn't mean we are relegation battlers, nor does tonight mean we don't have a lot of work to do. Chalobah shows exactly what we need in that midfield but hes got his own fitness issues to contend with and if we don't sign him specifically we need someone who can replicate what he was doing.
Ive said before that what business we have done has been pretty astute but there's still quite a lot to be done.8 -
