Scarlett Johansen is my first choice. But have a feeling I may have to compromise.DamoNorthStand said:getting Danny Murphy vibes here.... which is to say we may well end up signing him but we are clearly not his first choice.
Gut feel is if we cant convince him this is the project for him now, how committed will he really be?10 -
Fair enough, so if he doesn’t perform this year will you give him another chance next year?stoneroses19 said:
It’s obvious why so many of us stick with him. He’s clearly got talent and is only 22! No reason why it won’t all click in to place and he will go on to multiple successful seasons.TheHerminator said:
It’s been Leaburn’s breakout season for about 3 years now apparently.redbuttle said:
Leaburn is useless. Does not use his size and extremely lazy. I have heard enough about this could be his season .LittleAddick said:Some very rose-tinted glasses here looking at Dykes, go to any match thread at the end of the season and everyone is calling him a donkey, now the consensus seems to be let's have him back, and on improved terms!
Personally would rather give Leaburn a go ahead of him, seen as though their goal return is more or less the same, and I actually think Leaburn is stronger in the air.
Dykes' target man play was actually pretty poor IMO and mostly ended up with him on his arse.
I'd take him as an option in the squad, but if the plan is to start him 30+ games then I'm concerned.
not sure why people seem to stick with the hope that he’ll suddenly come good when his return to this point has been so poor.Dykes was twice the player last season that Leaburn was for me0 -
Sounds like the old Carl Leaburn discussion!!cafcsinger said:Leaburn’s goal return wasn’t great but he contributes a lot more than that. It’s too simplistic to just look at how much a striker scores.10 -
We surely must have been offered him a few times.sam3110 said:
Shame his old man can't put in a word and get him in here insteadChunes said:How well has Kyrell Lisbie done... From Welling to Cray Valley Paper Mills, to Braintree then P'boro... And now a big money move to the upper end of the Champ. He's quickly proved himself at every level and got the next move.
I thought he looked decent against us for Cray Valley but it was quite hard to gauge because we were useless that day.0 -
I don’t understand why certain lifers are down on Dykes 😳 I think he’s a half decent player.18

Danny Murphy it is then…Southbank said:

This 'Rumours' thread needs energising.
In the absence of tangible 2026 gossip, how about we re-create the transfer drama from the days pre-Internet?
I offer the rumour from 1966 that we are discussing the acquisition of Cliff Holton from Watford. Previously with The Arsenal, Holton would be an ideal addition to our squad and would have every chance of scoring the goals that our current shot-shy forward line has failed to deliver.3 -
I think it’s mostly due to us ending up with a similar attack to last season._MrDick said:I don’t understand why certain lifers are down on Dykes 😳 I think he’s a half decent player.I don’t really get that though, we have Grant and likely at least another winger coming in. Godden will be fit more this season, and no reason why TC, Kelman and Leaburn can’t all make big strides of improvement this season. So overall, even if we bring Dykes in as our striker signing, the attack is better this season than it was last which is all we should be striving for each window4 -
Think it was a bit difficult to really judge his performances last season as I'm sure he was "taking it a bit careful" not wanting to jeopardise his chance of going to the world cup. He wasn't the only one ... can't remember specific examples but I remember several commentators mentioning certain players who seemed to be performing better for their country than they had been during the last season for their clubs..._MrDick said:I don’t understand why certain lifers are down on Dykes 😳 I think he’s a half decent player.0 -

Holgrove or somebody similar is the vital one. Positive transformation of our midfield would increase the chances of wingers and strikers upping their performances.
NJ knows this and has said so. We have to hope that somehow he can make it happen. It will not be easy, with us as second favourites for relegation, to convince a serious talent with other good options to come here. But if we do not then the bookies will almost certainly be right.7 -
I understand both sides of the argument with Dykes. There is no doubting his work rate , which i love to see , but it's quality not quantity that this team desperately needs. Personally i wouldn't go for him but if he does come back i will fully support him. At least he's not injury prone like all our other strikers seem to be._MrDick said:I don’t understand why certain lifers are down on Dykes 😳 I think he’s a half decent player.4 -
Pretty sure @RonnieMoore has taken pelters in the past for suggesting liable. Now he’s moving to a team for 6m?Codfishjunior said:RE Lisbie it would have been interesting to see the reaction on here had we spent 3m rising to 6m on a player who only scored 11 goals in league one last year! Imagine a touch more negative than when other teams do it

With Lisbie, either Millwall are way overpaying or we've made a bit of an error by not signing him previously, when we've played against him and have the inside connection of his father.
Yes the timing last summer worked better for Posh than us, as he wasn't ready for the Championship, but we could have signed him from Braintree as a punt, in the way we signed Dixon as a punt. I can't imagine Posh paid much for him, and I'm sure he would have loved to join us.3 -
Can already see it.. lisbie scores winner in the 89th 😂6

I remember a certain self confessed “journeyman” coming to Charlton and if I remember correctly did pretty well for us. Garry Nelson.DennisBooth said:A simple question. If Dykes is so good why isn’t there a long line of top Championship clubs queuing up to buy him?Answer is because he is a journeyman.13 -
I’d love us to spend 3-6 million or whatever it is. I’m not sure I’d fancy Kyrell Lisbie at that price though.Feels very much like an Oloafe type signing that.9

Definitely not the future!!! Sell him!! Mbick should be getting all the minutes over himgolfaddick said:
Although I don't rate either that much surely Leaburn is the future. If not then sell him & re-invest the money for a new striker.21cws said:Not a massive fan of dykes returning but he done 10x more for us last season than Leaburn. Simple as that.2 -
Leaburn doesn't seem to have recovered to his full potential since that fateful Welling pre season injury a couple of years ago, just looks a bit to "careful" in his approach.
I live in hope that he has a good season this year, because if not question marks will forever hang on about him...🤔1 -
NJ signed for his take away before turning in for the nightRedRobin said:Other forum reporting a signing at the training ground this evening.2 -
Not a huge lover of Dykes stylistically, but for the first three quarters of his spell the impact was undeniable. I view it in a similar vein to the McNamara signing: if he’s a rotation / back up option I welcome it, but if he’s a week in week out starter I’m not a huge fan. Adebayo would be my preference. Either signing a decent option considering our budget, albeit hardly inspirational. As for Leaburn, the physical attributes are obvious. The technical ability is clearly there and his goal catalogue shows this; there aren’t many (any?) players in our squad who could score some of his goals, let alone at 6ft6. I see him in a similar vein to TC; the mental side of the game needs to improve. Miles doesn’t anticipate in the box, he doesn’t seem to have the desperation or desire to score and he can drift through games. Godden is an exceptional off the ball player, and Miles could learn a lot from him. Jones has also hinted at this need to improve about both TC and Miles in some of his comments. I’d hate for us to write him, and TC, off too quickly. They are both young enough with plenty of technical ability to improve the other side of the game considerably.8

Got to say Abu Kamara is one of the players I mentioned about a couple of years ago when looking at players performing significantly above the level at U21s. He was fantastic for Norwich U21s and he got his loan move to Portsmouth.
I would be disappointed if we aren’t tracking a young player from a top academy who has performed really well in the last 12 months. The pathway isn’t there for many and as good and productive as our academy is, there are better players out there who will be available for a move, on loan or to tempt at a permanent now we are a Championship club.8 -
I know Abu Kamara's family and there is no way he's joining us.69

Another one put to bed, lets hope there's a decent player out there who wants to be part of it. Looking forward to hearing the inevitable transfer update from Jones today post match, hopefully get some kind of indication as to where we're at with incomings, also strange that we still haven't announced Dixon's departure5 -
I would like to comment on Kamara but the only one I know is Kris.1

Rumour on FB that Alli is signing from Luton on Monday for £1.5 million.2
