I think he’s looked great but still not sure he’s championship ready. It’s another level of intensity and physicality, much less time on the ball than he’s had in pre-season.Oggy Red said:

Nathaniel Chalobah was always a gifted footballer and amassed 40 England U21 caps which is a phenomenal amount. Add that to his 287 league apps over the last 13 years and despite the injuries he is fit sometimes !
Not sure he would accept it(depends on other interest) but a decent one year contract with a 1 year option surely would be worth the risk for a midfielder with more skills than most of our squad ?

+ I’d say any of the following are potential additional exits:
Doc, Coventry, JRC, Apter, Leaburn, Fullah (loan)
Wouldn’t be suprised to see any of the above depart if we bring in replacements in their positions (Holsgrove, Chalobah, Dykes, Kamara)
Also, I'm not so sure about Holsgrove as others. I saw the almost statutory YouTube highlights reel, and noticed something. He never seems to be under pressure. He'll not get the same level of time in the Championship. Somebody will be snapping at him as soon as he gets the ball. It'll be a steep learning curve...1 -

But then he's no doubt looking the real deal in training against our own Championship (some will say League One
) players, or he wouldn't be pushing 1st team - but as you say, the Championship is a whole different level of intensity 0 -

In the unknown country of the future, if Chalobah could be fully fit and firing for a full season, then I think signing him would be a no brainer.
His trial compared to Redmond seemed light years apart after about one minute at Colchester.8 -
We need cover in midfield we're already short there as it is, I can't see us getting rid of anyone, even with Holsgrove possibly coming in.
If we then add Chalobah too, maybe we'll see one leave
I think other areas will see players leave instead if we're at the limit

I agree Crispy but I think people should be very careful what they wish for. If we pay the sort of fee that has been quoted, it will be a four year contract, the player turns out to be a dog and we are stuck with that wage, or we loan him to Cambridge.Crispywood said:

I still think Docherty starts a lot of games next season, especially away from home. If we are only bringing in Holsgrove then I think him and Docherty will be the starting midfield in most gamesOggy Red said:

How about Min-hyoek Yang on loan from Spurs as a RW.
Scored 3 in 15 for Portsmouth (including against us). Went on loan to Coventry after that but didn't really feature. Got 2 in 14 for QPR the season before. Surely looking for another Championship club with more playing time. Can play on either side.9 -

So I have done a bit of chat gpt research re Holsgrove. PArtly because people wanted it and partly because of my own curiosity. From a STATISTICAL perspective i can tell you the following. Note - I know Coventry and Holsgrove are not thew same type of player however the conclusion probably tells us what we need to know. Bear with me
Holsgrove versus Coventry
Requirement Holsgrove Coventry Completed passes /90 64.0 34.0 Pass accuracy 85.4% 78.4% Accurate long balls /90 4.16 3.39 Long-ball accuracy 53.3% 42.1% Chances created /90 1.68 0.49 xA /90 0.17 0.06 Assists 7 1 Coventry is a functional holding midfielder who covers ground and recovers possession. He is not a deep-lying playmaker.
Holsgrove completed approximately 913 more league passes despite playing 83 fewer minutes. That is an enormous stylistic difference.
They may actually complement one another. Coventry could do the less glamorous defensive work while Holsgrove becomes the primary receiver and distributor.
I think the key thing here is we are looking to go to 4-2-3-1 so Holsgrove and Coventry would actually be a decent fit as a pairing. I would also say Docherty is interchangeable with Coventry in this comparison and maybe Mwamba could be interchangeable with Holsgrove (admittedly a step down in quality at this point).
Cov and Doc do the dirty work and just give it to the creative one - that's what we were missing last year. Back in the Semedo days he was the horse who ran and kicked people and just played it simple - that's Coventry and Doc next year IF we have that creative "quarterback" to give it to and make stuff happen. That's how the engine room works. That's the plan.
Holsgrove is also good on set piece delivery, something we badly lack. And according to chat gpt - for players in the same sort of ability tier across europe mr Holsgrove is, actually, one of the very top for progressive passing and his accuracy is exceptionally high for a player who tries to be more creative rather than safe.
So my stance has changed, i've done some digging, decided he might be decent so that's 100% not going to happen now :-)
