First YouTube scouting assignment of a long summer

    Luke Graham (LCB):

I hear they call him the Scottish Sichenje.
I hope they are feeding him!

What do we think for a 34 year James Tavernier?

Personally think that would be a decent signing on a free.
Is this a rumour or just someone you would like?

Right, went into a bit of a deep dive into the Scottish Prem and watched videos on the players we are linked with, and in general some seemingly top players in that league.

I am not being dramatic when I say it will ruin my month, potentially even year, if we don't sign them all
Love this time of year. In about 2 minutes of amateur research I convince myself every player we are linked with is the signing to fire us to the premier league
Plus the occasional weird link that sounds absolutely bizarre (like a Kenyan defender playing in the Slovakian league) that turn out to be completely true.
Even weirder would be a Kenyan playing in the Serbian league!
Ah yes well done for spotting that totally deliberate mistake I put in completely intentionally to see who would notice and definitely didn't get wrong in a stupid attempt at humor.

    Oops.

Portmouth had a bid of £1.5m for Graham turned down in January.

Imagine he may be cheaper this summer than he would have been in January if there's mower only a year left on his contract, and they also have more time to sign a replacement.

Interesting comment from NJ on Rich's Substack regarding Godden

Jones was asked whether that meant that fans had seen the last of Godden in a Charlton shirt.

“I wouldn’t quite say that…I wouldn’t go as far as saying that,” he responded.

Might not have helped that it was January though
Clubs are going to be loath to sell First Team players and have it impact their League position in the middle of the season. Whereas they might be more open to a similar deal this summer, especially if he's out of contract in 2027... This is their last chance really to get a good deal.

    Someone I would like.

There is a couple of stories knocking about that Wolves might go for him and if Spurs get relegated, they will definitely go for him.

But if it was a possibility, I think he would be a solid, experienced signing.

Golfie is not going to like that.

Carey arrived pretty quickly last year and the Small departure was announced fairly quickly too.  I know we didn’t play our last game until the end of May however.

Although our recruitment was a little off last summer now we can look back and evaluate, I do believe we have a plan and structure to it now.  I hope that we can get some good quality in this year.  I don’t hold any blame for Apter and Tanto, some of us may.  IMO we took a chance and they’ve not worked out, it happens

I, plus many others were excited and positive with pretty much all our signings last summer.  We could do well this summer, I’m excited

If we can’t get our up front targets over the line then Godden stays perhaps. If we do and he wants away then that too perhaps

Can’t be the likes of targeting Harry Kane, Pedri and Courtois while they’re focused on other things. They won’t take in Nathan’s powerpoint properly

Nathan's tailored powerpoint 'So then Harry, now you've won the Champions League and the World Cup but have you ever thought about the benefits of taking a club from the bottom part of the Championship to the Chanpions league final in three seasons, what a career you would have had, you would have done it all and be considered a true footballing great'

Given you like dropping deep, have you ever considered being a 7th centre back?

Really really interesting piece with Rich from NJ about how the summer window is going to be attacked. Sounds like " best of L1" is firmly off the table

I had to read that a couple of times to figure out it's basically " yeah if a loanee of the quality of KDH when I was at Luton becomes available, we'll have a look"

Interesting he specifically mentions foreign influence.

Am I right in thinking we have room for up to 4 players who don’t qualify for a work permit?

It’ll be because Cawley asked him about KDH earlier in the press conference, he just put the two pieces out separately so if you missed the first piece it would be a bit baffling
