So we may be signing someone, or we may not.

Aribo's telescopic leg wants to rekindle it's relationship with Grant so we might sign him on a free.

No one is on airport watch at Stansted for Holsgrove.

Curbs took too long to make his latest AI skit so any transfer announcements were delayed to today, or possibly later.

RSK have taken a restraining order out on Red Robin.

We're going to loan in players because we can't sign them any more, or maybe we can.

    Goldie got whooshed.

Have we even revealed our away kit yet??

    I need a lie down.

Not a transfer rumour, I just wanted to ask people on the forum,For the last year I keep reading about  life long supporter Gavin Carter. I go back a lot of years and I never personally have  seen him or heard of him. Is there any one here heard about him before. Being life long would have thought he would have been in the old Vice Presidents members lounge .

One thing I will say is similar to when Bowyer galvanised us when the club was up for sale and created a siege mentality. I think Jones has similar attributes to be able to turn a negative situation like that into a positive one and not let the background noise interfere too much. As long as we have a competitive enough squad which I believe barring a few additions in midfield we do then I think we will be ok 🤞 😆😆
Bowyer still had a good team in league one because it was possible to borrow good midfielders and he had 2 excellent strikers for the level.  So while it was a great achievement to take us up, it wasn’t a miracle .  Jones keeping this lot up would be a miracle, not that I expect him to see the season through

True but you could argue that the squad Bowyer was left with the following season in the Championship was worse than what we have now and although we didn’t my stay up we should have done really of wasnt for the Snake slithering off.

There’s only one @Carter and I’m not sure you’d want him sorting out the East Stsnd toilets.

I'm not sure this is a particularly fair question and it's one that gets asked a lot. I go to Charlton games alone, I don't chat to people beyond a few words and I keep myself to myself. I also look like a fairly normal person, nothing about me stands out. I think there are about 10 Charlton fans on earth who would be able to identify me if they heard my name. None of that makes me less of a Charlton fan
Same here. I've been going to Charlton games by myself for over 20 years and have probably spoken to less than 5 people at games during that time.

I’ve not heard of anyone that knew him, but if you went mainly to home games & kept yourself to yourself then why would anyone know him? He then moved abroad.

I believe he’s a true supporter that kept himself to himself.

Btw I see him & Paul Elliot at all the away games I attend.

Bowyer got the bigger picture more, as did Powell. Jones has that potential but he often falls onto the other side where it’s all about Nathan Jones.

Not ideal news tonight but the owners aren’t stupid. They’ll know if we were to get relegated their asset is worth less
The Asset that is The Valley belongs to Roland.

It should belong to Charlton Athletic.

Without this Charlton is worth less.

The Americans know this but have no sense in English football to do anything about it.
    Charlton are clearly not worthless.
It’s worth considerably less than essentially every other club at the level. Because we don’t own the assets
I would naturally prefer Charlton to own the stadium / training ground, but there are others that are in the same position across the various leagues - highest profile probably being West Ham.  As long as the lease is long enough and secure enough it shouldn't be a problem.  I think ours is until 2040 so not at an overly concerning point yet.

In order to bring it together we would want / need a benefactor like Coventry where he bought back the ground (last year?) and invested well into the squad - but that was after a few years of mid table / pushing playoff finishes.

We should look at them as a blueprint for how to navigate the next 3-5 years.

Players below the prem are so used to turbulence in ownership and football clubs nowadays that I doubt they bat an eyelid. As long as they're still getting paid.

I'm not calling them mercenaries either, across the private sector employees continue to do their job in uncertainty.

I will wait until the Club tell us what is going on.
We were looking for investors in January and I think it maybe down to some investors wanting to push on, or an investor wanting to bail out.
The cost of promotion has certainly gone up so let’s hope we can get someone on board if this is the case.

My Dad's been going Charlton since the early 70s, was a big part of the hooligan era and B Mob, travelled home and away and at one point was in the "wrong end" with his brother at an away game and started a fight, only for them to be dragged out of the stand and marched around the pitch to the away end, all whilst the Charlton fans pointed at them and chanted "Charlton Aggro, Charlton Aggro, oh ohh, oh ohh" he's had a season ticket for nearly 30 years after not having one for a few seasons when they first had me, and knows loads of people at games, but I bet no-one on here will know him from Adam.

Doesn't make him less of a fan than anyone else

This has probably already been covered, but re: timelines, do we think the announcement has come out after Jones commented about a RW and dominant CM and he already knew, therefore we can take some confidence plans are unchanged.  Or, would this have blindsided him and now he’s having to change plans completely and it’s unlikely we’ll see anything other than free transfers and loans?

I appreciate we’re all just guessing, but I still would like to think there’s a chance we’re going to see those additions.  If we can get a really decent player in, particularly in central midfield, I’m still optimistic for this season.  We’ve got a fairly solid backline and good amount of options.  Even if TC goes I think the players across the top are capable between them, it’s just that middle that needs fixing

If we don’t address it, the owners will find themselves really struggling to sell us on the basis of an attractive investment, as we’ll more than likely be in League One.  I really hope we’re still going all out for a couple more high quality players - it’s imperative for us, the owners and the club

Don't think it does us any favours... If I was Holsgrove if want us to have a stable ownership that look like they want to push on

Have we had it confirmed that Holsgrove is the only player we're after? I honestly think I'd take Chalobah & Aribo at this point, dreading the prospect of Doc & Cov

I don't know Adam. Does he go to games?  ;)

I am getting a bit bored of some of the negative and short sighted comments being posted on here. I don’t know what people were expecting.

I hate that we have so much squad turnover every year but we desperately needed reinforcements. The transition the club has gone through necessitates this overhaul. The depth wasn’t there and the loans ending meant we lost four or five starters. So it was clear a massive influx of players was needed.

Let’s say we needed to bring in a minimum of seven players. When you need this many and only have a budget of around £10m, then you have to be clever in how you spend your money. Really basic stuff. So, it makes sense to spend no money on a back up right back who has good champ experience. It makes sense to bring in a decent striking option for no money when you have decent depth there already and have assessed that other options are likely too expensive. It makes sense to concentrate your spending on positions of most serious need to to bring in extra quality where t matters when decent, cheaper options are available in other positions. This is just common-sense squad building.

It seems to me that some people didn’t understand what slow, sustainable and sensible growth meant. It never meant that if we stay in the Championship for one year we will then blow the league out the water. It won’t happen next summer either, by the way. As a side note, it’s also not how football finances work so it’s no good talking about how rich our owners are. At this moment in time, unless we sell someone for big money or agree a huge sponsorship deal with an American airline or streaming service, this is the only feasible way for us to improve.

Jones has made a rod for his own back (for some) with the ‘ruthless’ comments. When, in reality, he was most likely just talking about some of the business that needed to be done, not all. Letting a midfield prospect who is a hard worker and, by all accounts, amazing character that has been with the club since the age of 8 leave is quite ruthless. Letting a reliable squad option who scored the goal to promote the club leave is quite ruthless. The likely exit of a young academy striker who won League 2 player of the year is quite ruthless. Any additions in centre mid that move Coventry or Docherty down the pecking order should be considered ruthless. Why does signing a back up right back have to be judged by this metric? Who can name all of the Luke Young backups from the Curbishley years? It’s not an overly important position.

I am not an ITK. But the signing of Alli for £1m shows, to me, that there is money to be spent. This was not necessarily a position of need and there are plenty of free agent wingers available. So to spend money on this player shows that firstly, they rate him, and secondly, it suggests there is money available for the right targets. It signals there is more to come.

Jones is an outspoken man who finds it borderline impossible to bite his tongue. If there was no money or the board had let him down I think we’d have heard something, or picked up on a sly comment. It’s been quite the opposite. He has told fans to be patient. The season starts in just under three weeks and the window shuts in five. He has repeatedly said there is more to come and quality takes time.

We all want more in. We all want improved quality. I definitely don’t enjoy watching us hoof it up to Dykes. But the window isn’t done. They are implementing a formation change. Let’s just give things some time.

    Well said!

I think the negative posters don’t want to understand the financial situation we’re in. A small but vocal minority have always created a lot of noise mostly through wilful ignorance. Professional football people would wet themselves at some of the comments on here, it’s so far from reality. Remember, this is only a fans forum, none of us have any pro experience at coaching a football team or even understand the basics of football finance.
I'm not advocating our owners spend more, but how come Stoke have spent so much this year? Not sold any players for large transfer fees in years and have a similar turnover to ours. Could be their owner selling the club to themselves and wiping £80m of debt, so they ended the year in "profit". There is always a way around the rules.

If the owners wanted to put more money in, they could find a way. I've seen it suggested that the recent change in the rules is a way to drive down players wages in the Championship. Which, considering the state of finances in the Championship, seems quite sensible.

They are owned by Bet365 essentially who keep investing in equity stakes in the football club. It isn’t a sustainable model but it means short term they can spend big on players
Sorry, but no they aren't. They were demerged from Bet365 in 24/25, transferred to Stoke City Holdings, and their debts wiped. Which is why their have been able to spend as they have.

As I said, if the owners wanted to spend big they could find a way. I think @Doucher is bang on the money and, unless we have some incredible recruitment, consigned to circle the drain.
I don't believe the owners are here for the long run, they're here to just try and flip a profit at some stage, and it appears their strategy is to do the bare minimum in doing so, which to be fair so far has worked.

It was heavily hinted at one of those Addicks meetings that Roland still owning the club held us back from improving the matchday experience and our plan is essentially waiting for an old man to die and hope his son offers a better deal for the stadium. You then look at Birmingham City and Wrexham's owners (who combined have a lower networth than one of ours) yet they're willing to pump millions into the infrastructure of the club. (A billion in Birminghams case)

The plan will be to keep using the TV money and whatever else to keep us afloat until someone comes along to buy us.

I don't mind by the way, as the alternative for us was a lot worse, but no one can convince themselves they're doing everything in their power to make us a competitive championship side, it is the bare minimum to avoid relegation.
Unfortunately appear to have been on the money. Just like I was Piergianni.
I still don't see how they could flip the club for a profit, the money they've already pumped into the club makes it impossible to make money from a sale, unless they've been badly advised, like someone with say pink trousers.

If fans think they are not preparing to off load the club then maybe think again. Let’s wait for these two huge marquee signings or loans as they maybe.

If we’ve got no money to spend then it’s a pretty good midfield that but would be worried about injuries, I’m still hoping though if the owners are looking to sell they’ll get more the higher up the league we are.

Literally the only way they can offload the club in the short term is to take a massive loss on it. I doubt any of them are willing to do that

As an outsider looking in I would say the exact opposite is true. Bowyer may have been as dull as dishwater, a lot of the best managers are, but you could tell he had a calm head about him. He didn’t get too high with the highs and too low with the lows. Hes the sort to just roll his sleeves up and get on with the job in hand.  Having observed NJ a fair bit I wouldn’t say he has the same attributes as Bowyer on that front. I don’t think he’ll walk. Why would he when he’s got four years left on his contract? But I can’t see him dealing with the background noise very well. He’s already stormed out of a meeting with the board recently didn’t he?

I'm surprised you got that impression of Lee Bowyer... The guy was a hothead, on and off the pitch. As examples I'd point you to his press conference about Steve Evans, or the post-match interview after he'd subbed Johnny Williams on and off in the space of five minutes.

    7 goals in 42 League 1 games.

If that's the going rate for a player of that calibre, TC is worth more as he did that the season before, and has now played in the Championship for a year

The comment I probably remember the most from Bows and I get with what's transpired afterwards I probably understand it a bit more was the one about Marcus Maddison , think he got injured in a game on Sky (Accy when Charles and Bishop ran us ragged maybe?) and Maddison came off injured and bows was " I don't care"
