£750k for Kanu doesn’t sound great when we paid almost double for Tanto.
Tanto had double the contract length left and a lot more senior football under his belt

Personally I think 750k for Kanu is good business, especially if there's a % from down the line added. You could give him a new contract, loan him to a league 1 team and it not work out. If thats a genuine offer id take the money amd put it towards this season's fund.
But then what will 750k get us? Literally nothing in the champ.

And what would £0 next summer get us?

If we can shift Kanu and Mitchell for close to 1.5m that’ll do one transfer surely.

    Mitchell will go for 300,000 / 400,000

Its 15k for a year towards someone's wages, or towards another signing. Most of our players will leave on a free or be loaned out until the contracts expire, its better in our pockets now than gambling that he does well on loan and is then ready for mid table championship in 12 months.

If he goes to Luton and does well, you'd hope we'd get a few more 100k in a year or 2 if they sell him on.

So we would be in the same situation we are now except 750k richer.

Kanu is not good enough atm for the championship, we are not in a position to wait until he is good enough, we need players that are ready now

If I were making the decisions I’d want to have a very hard look at Kanu pre season. Good strikers are expensive and as common as rocking horse shit. £750k doesn’t look particularly good to me. If NJ feels he’s not ready then loan him out again but I’d have to be very sure that he’s not up to it before I sold him at this stage.
Cannot do this. His deal runs out next season. It's either first team football this year or sell him I think

are brighton still interested in mbick?
Think they will wait to see how he comes back from the nasty injury he got ..

Think thats the crux of it. Though why somebody decided to LOL this just because Ronnie said it is ludicrous. About the most reasonable post he could make on the subject and he still gets lol'd.

Kanu is a weird one , clearly knows where the back of the net is but with Kelman and potentially Godden ahead of him I don't really know where the path to first team football is for him. £750k with a year to run I'm not overly convinced by as a price but I understand that that's a good wedge for a L1 side to splash on a striker that's not proven at that level.

Think Mbick will be here until January at least, gives him time to get over his injury and see where he's at recovery wise.

Can’t see Kanu being able to come in and do a job at Championship level this season.  I think he’s okay and has always applied himself when he got a chance, and I was pleased to see him have a successful season at Walsall.  However, we’re looking to kick on and score more goals this year.  I think we need proven quality and with his contract expiring next summer, I don’t see him as a viable option

further to him, Alex Mitchell and Ahadme would definitely be ones to move on.  After that, I think it’s going to be personal preference for a lot of people, but my choices would be

    Oloafe
    Apter
    Coventry

I just don’t see Tanto or Apter working out, and although Coventry may be deemed more controversial, I just don’t think he’s at this level, and we need to move players on to bring in what we need.

JRC could potentially be someone else you may consider, but I think given the length of his deal he will be in and around the squad next season.

Dixon is someone I don’t see the point in pursuing either, but he’ll probably get another loan along with a few other youngsters

Kanu .. get him in for a pre season, if the management are impressed, put him in the squad, if quite impressed but still unsure, loan him out .. if he doesn't want that, then sell him.
He scored a lot last season, albeit in a lower league .. given the terrible collective record of our strikers last season, surely he is worth a a thorough, unbiased assessment

If he can play in the first team, great offer him a decent champ contract. If he can't going to have to sell him but with a buy back clause if he does well in League 1.

He has one year left on his contract. Loaning him out again doesn’t work unless he signs a new contract, and he’d want a Championship pay bump as part of that. Not as simple as we would all like.

I don't think the league 2 goals mean much. Apter, Tanto, Leaburn, TC etc would all be too good for league 2 football. Even Ahadme might score a few goals! The championship is a huge jump from there

I don’t think Kanu is ready yet but I think he still has the potential to be. Unfortunately his contract situation might mean he fulfils that elsewhere rather than with us

Southampton are also now going to be in there 2nd and final year of parachute payments and also starting with a points deduction. Maybe they're being a bit more cautious about spending high and perhaps looking to cut there cloth a bit and with players contracts expiring it might be easier to just let go some previous high earners like Bree who would have joined on a Premier League contract.
According to Wikipedia parachute payments are over 3 seasons, diminishing per season, although that depends entirely on the Wikipedia information being correct!

I think it’s only two seasons if a team gets relegated in their first season in the Prem. You’ve got to be there for two seasons to get three years of parachute payments

Yeah 750k is very low for a league two young player of the season who probably still has a future at his parent club, even if he does just have 12 months left on his contract.

He is old enough for the Champ if he is good enough. I think he can do the TC role better than Tyreece.  We can try him for a month in the 1st team before we need to make a decision, potentially bumping up the price.

Southampton's owner on Radio Solent this morning saying he has no intention of sacking as he called him " a great manager" who made a "mistake", talk about deluded, he should be sacked now, and given a ban on managing in England again...
The FA verdict still hasn’t come in. I suspect he will get quite a large ban and will then be sacked or moved to another one of the clubs they own if they really want to stick by him

Might explain why Southampton do not sack him, a ban possibly would save the pay off.

If we are genuinely interested in signing Bree, then the fact he has already played for us and knows the set up, might weigh heavily in our favour, particularly if money isn’t a priority for him.
Is there any footballer alive for whom money isn't a priority?

And Mr Taylor still gets pelters!
