Koivunen starts in goal for Finland away to Serbia
Finland win 3-1, the Serbian goal being an own goal. Finland goalkeeping stats were 1 opposition shot on target, 1 save.

Meanwhile Ukraine completed a routine win and will be England's opposition in the playoff final round unless the unthinkable happens later tonight.

Mason starts for Northern Ireland away to Portugal (they're 4-0 down from the first leg)

McAteer is on the bench for Wales at home to Albania (they're 1-0 up from the first leg)

Whitehouse is on the bench for Republic of Ireland at home to Kazakhstan (they're 8-0 up from the first leg)

As expected, Northern Ireland are out while the other UK sides and Ireland are through. Scotland had a bit of a scare, England and Wales both comfortable.

England and Ireland are strong favourites to qualify in their finals against Ukraine and Poland. Scotland and Wales face Sweden and Norway with the odds strongly against them. Plus if one of the two tier 2 sides does win, they're very likely to be the lowest ranked qualifier and therefore have to face the intercontinental playoff next spring. England are one of the top-ranked sides still involved, so can't end up in that playoff - if they beat Ukraine they're going to Brazil, if they lose they're out.

Dates for the finals are to be announced. They will be during the international window that straddles the end of November and the start of December. England and Ireland will be away in the first leg, Scotland and Wales home.

That window is also when the North American qualifiers are settled and the early stages of the intercontinental playoffs happen. One it's over, all qualifiers except the 3 intercontinental playoff places will be known.

Finland have an outside chance of qualifying; they were the only country from the third-seeded group to beat second-seeded opposition, and they're up against Italy who were massively unimpressive in disposing of minnows Belarus 3-1 on aggregate, including the only draw conceded by any of the 8 top seeds.

The remaining games are Iceland-Portugal, Austria-Switzerland and Netherlands-Slovenia.

Wikipedia has a helpful list of the rankings for the UEFA qualifiers. If all the seeded countries win, Austria go to the intercontinental playoff, the other 7 qualify direct. That includes England and Ireland. Wales are second lowest - if they were somehow to beat Norway they would go to the playoff unless Finland also won. Scotland are third lowest, they would need one of Wales or Finland to win to avoid going to the playoffs if they beat Sweden.

Given that 15 of the 16 ties in the last round went with seeding, it's very likely that all 8 seeds will win so Austria get the extra match. If so, they will be facing a one-off game against a side much lower in the world rankings, so in practice it should be a formality.

England's final qualifying game will be at Wembley on Saturday 5 December at 5.30. I assume there will be plenty of pubs showing it after the Birmingham game. Shame really that they didn't set it for slightly later so fans of London clubs with home games could go to both, but I assume they're hoping to sell out without needing the extra people.

Really frustrating scheduling as I’d have very much liked to go to that. Now hoping our Birmingham match gets moved to the dreaded 12.30 slot…except think it’s too late for that already.

Ireland 5-0 up at half-time in Kazakhstan. Whitehouse is on the bench.
I went to the second leg home game on Tuesday night which we won 4-0.

They'd really want to rethink how these qualifiers work . It was so ridiculously one sided, Kazakhstan got out of their own half about 5 or 6 times in the whole game

You're right. The TV picks have been made up until the FA Cup 3rd Round in early January.
