With no additions soon the Tuesday starting eleven should be who?
    Mannion
    Collins Jones Billy Melic
    Mwamba Chalobah Knibbs
    Ali Godden Grant

They seemed to be the best of the mix today : maybe Leaburn instead of Godden...?

We’re so under cooked for the start of the season. Really worrying. Midfield needs so much work.
This. Still Piss balling about for a decent central midfielder when it should've been done long ago is shit preparation.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt last season because of coming up by the playoff route. There can be no excuses this year.

Didn’t watch it but I hear TK had another cracker

We will be relegated with our goalkeeping options there must be a premier league loan out there somewhere

Sole objective this season is to not get relegated. Would be a bonus to have a decent pre-season and to beat Reading. The bonus is now gone but no biggie.

Bell not having his best game so far
Bell doesn't look like a full back. Lisbie (L2 last year) has him on toast.
Yeah Bell is definitely not a LB.

Sooner Edwards is back the better (providing he can find his old form)

People do get far too wound up about preseason games. There’s always very little correlation between how teams play in preseason and how they perform in the actual season
What did you see that looked like the players and team played well ,and are ready for a cup match in 7 days and a league game in 14 days.
Didn’t watch it I’m on holiday. The game has absolutely zero bearing on the season.
Does that mean we are going to storm the league.

Everyone moaned and groaned about the 5 at the back last season but we don’t have the facilities for 4 at the back… cut open at will against a league one side and the goalkeeper is just abysmal . Sign a dominant cm and play 5-3-2
Except we played 3 at the back in a 3-5-2

Pre season has been so weird, some players in, some out but nothing seems to have been built/developed?
Has got to be a big concern , really can't see any progress.
    This.

It's as if we've just picked up where we left off back in May. Only Grant seems an improvement on last season. Admittedly I've not seen enough of Alli but nothing else seems an upgrade

To me the season starts next week. We should be putting out our strongest 11 next Sat. Treat the game like a League match.

Only bonus today was that the stream was free.
Mesík and Koumetio look an upgrade on Chambers and Bell to me
Haven't seem Mesik & Koumetio looked gangly & a bit unsure of himself. He's learnt how to do a 50 yard diagonal hoof though.

Yes it's a pre season match, and yes you aren't just putting out your best 11s and combinations of players, as you're trying things out, but that has to be considered a very disappointing afternoon.

In terms of definite starters, our first choice left looks strong - Mesik at LB, Koumetio at LCB and Grant LW. Jones will be at RCB, while Knibbs will be at 10.

Elsewhere, thing are really up for grabs.

Bell was great on the left of a 3 Once he went to LB or LWB he had problems.
  • The GK situation is a huge concern. £1million and £20k p/w is it not?

    … ouch!

The Tuesday 11 will be about minutes, rather than who "deserves" to play. Maybe Apter will be back, ditto Carey if it was just a precautionary absence.

Next Saturday will be interesting. I think we need to go strong, and treat it as the "big" final pre season game.

Thought I’d read my book for a bit to get my mind of Charlton. Queue 2/3 pages about some data scientists who wanted to buy us and try a Brentford style model 10/15 years ago (pre Brentford & Brighton’s success)

I don’t read too much into pre season friendly matches which is just as well after watching that.
Exactly - the disinterest some of the senior players showed makes it hard to read anything from this. Just about every poor performance can be put down to the lack of support from other players.

The only two things I took from this we that Koumetio looks very promising, although that could be just because he did actually make an effort.  Also, I liked Campbell on the right. The balls he put in when he went past the defender on the outside looked really dangerous.

Apart from that, they may as well have just done laps around the park.
  • The lack of any meaningful patterns of play is concerning. Same problems as last season we just don’t know what to do with the ball

Central midfield still the issue I see?

Don't worry. We've kept our powder dry remember. Whilst other teams have been buying players & bedding them in during pre-season we are going to bide our time.

    Slowly slowly catchee monkey....🙄

If we are going to play 4231 we need Coady back in to play in front of the two centre backs because today Ramsey and Bell were so poor two centre backs spent to much time wide covering which left us open .. … at least Coady could drop back in the hole left

Midfield non existent. Couple of decent crosses across face of goal from TC in first half but no Charlton striker close. Close to scoring on a Reading back pass.

Reading looked bothered and had much more  energy. Lisbie troubled Charlton defence on the wing.

On that showing, its going to be a long season. Team looks no way near Championship ready. Learning from this game, get some decent midfielders in.

Was that a Portuguese group? I remember a Portuguese consortium coming up with that kind of model

                         Mannion
    Ramsay Jones Koumetio Mesic
    Mwamba        Trialist/Newboy/Collins
                       TC   Knibbs  Alli
                             Grant

Ramsay surely can't play so poorly again and he did make a few decent tackles. I'd have Brooks on the bench.

Kaminski needs to have a word with himself.
No, no mate you mustn’t criticise him neither Lev Yashin or Dino Zoff would have saved that 😏
Give it a rest you plum, the third goal was a fluke that Kaminski should have been better positioned for, but that doesn't change the fact no-one gets to the free kick
Chill your beans fella no need for insults, You wanna take a good look in the mirror before you start name calling.
Always makes me laugh that a 40 year old wrestling fan that looks like that so regularly hands out insults.
Lads, can we give the personals a rest please?
