BEAT THE BOOKIE - WORLD CUP 2026 - Round 1 Fixtures
Welcome back to Beat The Bookie after a short break! This is a World Cup edition that will run for the duration of the tournament.
The rules are as usual with each round of games equivalent to a normal week of fixtures.
The Rules
- Each round a selection of games will be posted up.
- You will be given a virtual tenner to put on either a single, double or treble.
- Simply post your bet from the selections and we'll work out everyone's virtual winnings/losses.
- If you don't use your bet you get -£10 for that round for competition purposes.
- Anyone joining part way through will start on the same balance as the lowest in the competition.
- Any bets affected by postponements will be settled using remaining selections. If all selections are cancelled you will get a £20 stake for the next round.
On the morning of the 18th I will post the results from round 1 and the fixtures from round 2 but of course you can make your selections anytime before the games kick off.
The rounds are defined as follows.
Round 1: Group stage round 1
Round 2: Group stage round 2
Round 3: Group stage round 3
Round 4: Last 32
Round 5: Last 16
Round 6: Quarter finals
Round 7: Semi finals
Round 8: Final
The competition has also had a visual refresh which will hopefully make it a bit easier on the eye.
I hope I haven’t missed anything but feel free to give me a shout if I have done.
The selections for round 1 are:
Good luck!

If we get a virtual tenner, how does that work? 3.33 on each team? And what if we lose all 10, how can we continue betting? Sorry, but I’ve never looked at these threads before.

It’s a tenner on a single, double or treble e.g. if you bet on 3 teams the odds are the product of the 3 teams.jimmymelrose said:If we get a virtual tenner, how does that work? 3.33 on each team? Ok, so I get a free tenner given to me each round, thanks for clarifying that, but my first question is still bugging me, sorry
If I walked into a bookie with 10 quid, I would still have to say how much I want to put on each bet. I could split it into 4,3,3 or 7,2,1 etc. I couldn't say that it’s an equal amount on each unless he gave me 1p change. Or are you saying that we get 3 x 10 pound bets?

No worries! You get 1x£10 bet to place on 1 single, 1 double or 1 treble. So imagine I'm thinking of betting on 3 teams: England (1.7), Ecuador (2.25) and Paraguay (3.7).jimmymelrose said:Leeds_Addick said:

Or are you saying that we get 3 x 10 pound bets?- If I place just one single, on for example England, and it comes in, I'd get £10 * 1.7 back = £17
- If I place a double on England and Ecuador and it comes in, I'd get £10 * (1.7 * 2.25) back = £38.25
- If I place a treble on all 3 selections and it comes in, I'd get £10 * (1.7 * 2.25 * 3.7) back = £141.53
But I'll assume you want a treble with these 3 selections unless you post againjimmymelrose said:3 singles on 3 draws please:
