Guessing he's the Edwards upgrade rather than the Gillesphey? Good stuff
    Looks it

Yeah, these are LCB areas more than LWB
Traditionally yes but they’re fairly similar to Edwards positions, if a tad more central. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Koumetio too and have those two plus Bell and Edwards as our left sided options

Over 6 foot as well, so physicality added as well, think we're gong to recruit smartly

Yet another one-footed footballer. Hope NJ isn't going to try and play him as RWB.
You've surely won some sort of CL award for this contribution

When he signed for Heracles two years ago.

”I am a centre defender. I can play on both sides and also can play some games as a left back.”

Speaking at the time of signing for Heracles, he says he’s a CB but can play ‘both sides’ and has played at LB before

I’m guessing the eredivise is a similar standard to the championship, bar two or three of the top clubs?
Well i saw PSV games three times last season and the standard in those certainly pissed all over the Championship. Overall probably similar I guess.

He played every game when his old club got dicked last season but then again almost every game when they were comfortably mid table the season before so clearly held his own in the league

Slovakian left back. Started 63/68 games for Heracles over the last two seasons so seems dependable in terms of availability.

Heracles did get relegated with only 19 points from 34 games last season.
How long we giving it before his first injury then, Dartford or Gillingham?

I love the look of this signing.
Young, hungry, ambitious, buying into Nathan's vision.
Tall, sees aggression as one of his assets, won't take any shit.
    What is not to like

I wonder if Linda Mesík would give me a lift to Maribor?

30 games in the League last season, playing at Centre Half or Left Back. We don't need 3 left sided CB's, so with a bit of luck we can now move Gillesphey on

He describes himself as aggressive and loves a tackle

Sichenje, Jones, Mesík as a back 3 could be pretty tasty

I don't think anyone had "Slovakian defender from Heracles Almelo" on their bingo card as our first signing!

    Welcome Ivan
Gotta have a dodgy hamstring then.....?

    Got to be good news.

I wonder in practice how long we have been watching him -as Rodwell says we have? 6 months, a year ?

I mention because I see this window as the first full one that is subject to the influence of Phil Chappell being back.

Heracles Almelo sells Ivan Mesik to Charlton Athletic; defender signs for 4 years with London club

For the players of Heracles Almelo, the preparation for a season in the Kitchen Champion Division has begun. In this live blog we will keep you informed of all developments around the Almelo club.

Heracles sells Ivan Mesik to Charlton Athletic

Following in the footsteps of Brian De Keersmaecker, Ivan Mesik is also leaving for the English Championship. Heracles Almelo sells the 25-year-old Slovakian defender to Charlton Athletic FC.

Mesik has signed a contract for four seasons. Heracles receives a fee. As usual, no announcements will be made about the amount. The defender was still under contract with Heracles until mid-2028.

A good deal for the Almelo club. He picked up Mesik two years ago from Pescara in the Italian Serie C. Together with teammate Lorenzo Milani, who did not make a convincing impression at Heralces. Mesik succeeded very well.

He played 71 games for Heracles and scored three goals. He also managed to select himself for the Slovakian selection.

Mesik was examined last weekend at the London club and completed all the formalities regarding his transfer on Monday. Charlon ended last season as the number 19 in the Championship.

    Reaction Mesik:

In Heracles' press release, the departer says the following: "I am very happy with this step, but I also realize that I could not have made it without Heracles. In Almelo I had the best period of my career so far. I want to thank my teammates and the members of the staff for their help and the fact that I felt like a valued member of the selection from day one."

Mesik continues: "The support from the fans was also great, every game. Thanks to all those factors, I was able to grow as a person in the past two years and make the step I can now take as a footballer."

"Last season didn't go as expected, but I'm convinced that Heracles Almelo will return to the Eredivisie. Wherever the club belongs. Preferably in the new season. I crossed my fingers for that!"

    Faber on Mesik:

Technical director Ernest Faber is full of praise for Mesik. "Ivan has always distinguished himself with his professionalism, mentality and full commitment to Heracles Almelo. This transfer is a great step in his career and an opportunity that he wanted to take advantage of."

Ahhh but did you know that Almelo's sister town is... Luton
(It isn't... But funnily enough it is Preston... HA take that Lilywhites... That'll teach you to pinch our targets last summer)

Reads as if he will be the LB, could see Edwards copy Ramsay and becoming the left sided cb, would have all the attributes to do so
