    Pure total and utter scum.

Happy to come and play and get paid in our country though, if that’s how they feel, fuck them off.
I’ve been defending them but I agree with you, and my Argentinian wife thinks they're stupid too.

When they won the tournament in 2022, Brighton had a great celebratory welcome back for Alexis MacAllister. He and other Argentinians have been treated with more than just respect.  Now they should be made to feel ashamed of themselves, making nonsensical political statements against the people who pay their huge salaries and support them. I hope fans boo MacAlllister and Romero next season.
    Stupid?

    She should ashamed of them.

Let me guess, she's also been brainwashed by her government.

As stupid implies that they are wrong to wave the banner, but you know, they have a point.

    Which they don't.

Pulling that stunt is a complete mockery of all the lives on both sides affected by a conflict started by a dictatorship simply to posture.

Even your wife thinks it's 'stupid'. Jesus. What a country.
The first 5 lines of your post are the very essence of "stupid".
  • Had to sleep on that. I have never felt so let down an betrayed by a manager in my life. I was happy with the defensive display against Mexico as we were down to 10 men and playing with the odds against us. And indeed they lacked the offensive quality that Argentina possess. I didn't expect what I saw yesterday. After going up with lesss than 20 minutes of normal time to go, of course Argentina were going to change tactics and take risks. You have to accept it and see the opportunity in it. They are an average side overall but a top side if you let them attack you with impunity as England (Tuchel) did.

As a manager, you have to have the balls to react in a positive way. We were getting warnings as well and Tuchel decided to take off Gordon for Konsa and Rice for Burn.I don't blame the players, this sends entirely the wrong message to them. The ball kept coming back of course and the risk Argentina took in chasing the game became no risk at all. When you are playing a side like them, you are basically saying you are free to play to your strengths and we won't stop you.

What should Tuchel have done? Well Rashford should have been brought on and asked to play from the centre circle. That then occupies defenders and gives us an outlet. That is the bare minimum, Really he should have also kept Gordon on and if he had nothing left, probably Madueke. That would have pushed them back a bit and if it didn't we would have threatened them constantly on the break. You have to react to the situation, the manager who has gone behind has to as they are going out, the manager who has gone ahead has to as the manager that has gone behind has. After that, I would cancel Tuchel's contract and give it to a positive manager. You don't need a top club manager but you need a brave one. Rooney might be worth a go for instance but whoever you choose you make it clear that gutless cowards need not apply. If we had lost doing that we would have accepted it.

Maybe the job forces negativity as it is too big. We were told Tuchel would not be like Southgate but yesterday I think Southgate may have reacted differently if he learned anything from 2018 and 2021. It may be annoying but if you go a goal up, opponents are going to react. To sit deep and play to their strengths is criminal. England can just F off until the next tournament as far as I am concerned. And Tuchel can just F off full stop!
I was with you until you said this. Sorry.
How long before we start hearing Frank Lampard's name or even Gerrard?  And as for the Rooney suggestion.....?
Tuchel was SO poor last night but come on...?

I would get rid. We struggled past Congo, Mexico was a great result in the circumstances and Norway should really have been 2 nil up.

Some odd squad decisions meaning we had no midfield cover and resorted to playing full backs all over the pitch.

    Then the outburst post Norway

We've been too negative, He's had his chance

The substitutions definitely didn’t help but there’s something in the English psyche about sitting back and defending a lead. We’ve done it for as long as I can remember

I just think celebrating with that banner is more than 'stupid'.

And I said she be ashamed of them. Not herself. Unless she is also brainwashed by her awful government.

Stand by all of that. If you think it's stupid, fair enough. Thankfully we live in a country with freedom of speech.

Freedom of expression, not speech. We're not the US. And you’re a troll.

The point about the squad - it's borderline negligent to be able to take a squad of 26 and still be struggling with players having to fill in all over the place out of position due to injuries and you not wanting to play some of the back-ups.

If you want to take Stones, Saka, Rice and James while they are half fit, then you need to take decent cover for them, and we took Quansah, Chalobah, a striker from the Saudi league, and f***ing Henderson as some sort of cheerleader.  And why take Mainoo if you don't think he's good enough to play?

    Get rid.
    Get Pep if we can.
    Get Poch if we can’t.

How fucked must Saka be to not get on the pitch ?
Get the outlet ball somewhere near him, he gets fouled (dives) and takes the heat out of the game.

Simon Weston just spoke brilliantly about it on Good Morning Britain.

I think above all else it is pretty sad that they get to the World Cup Final and we are still living rent free in their heads over that. They should be celebrating their football achievement. We certainly would. If we hadnt turned into statues for the last 30 mins, the last thing on our players mind would be goading them about a war we smashed them in.

So after all of that - they have just reminded the whole world they are still hurting. And it is by far the most important thing in their lives.

Oh well, suck it up, and get on with playing a sport you are actually pretty good at when you cut out the hystrionics.

No team has ever won the world cup with a foreign manager.

That isn't going to change this time either, as Scaloni and de la Fuente are both from the country they manage.

People banging on about the manager but who is Argentinas manager? Not exactly what you would call "elite" is he. Argentina players were better at dribbling and passing in tight areas last night, that was the difference for me.

    Same for Spains manager too.

Not read thread but did any else equate to watching England post taking a lead to watching Charlton post taking a lead?

painful to watch. Got away with it v Mexico but said to the wife at 76 mins it won’t work as they have far more quality than Mexico. Argentina were 12/1 at that point.

I thought of Charlton and there is no way that an England side should mutate into a lowly 2nd tier team in the EFL after 73 minutes. (55th minute we retreated)
This was England v Argentina, not Middlesbrough v CAFC, FFS.

I think this every time I watch England, barring the last four games before last night. And it seems to be inherent in both. There are obviously times when things click, but it won't be long before we're back to the same old m/o.

Only thing I'd say about the flag is that it was thrown to them from the crowd. It's not as if it was pulled out from their dugout by the players.

Just 9 defeats in 103 matches and hasn't lost a tournament since 2019. Seems pretty elite to me.

And yes of course he has Messi, but Argentina had Messi for 13 years before Scaloni took over and they won fuck all.

This is why we/I thought a German manager was appointed to overcome this perceived thought ?

Between 66 mins and 85 mins we made just two successful passes. Both were between Stones and Pickford.

That is unforgivable at any level.

Argentinas subs won them the game. Our Subs lost us the game.
    Tuchel lost us that game.

His explanation was bullshit as well. The players were naturally going defensive, so i put more defenders on to help them. Fuck off, you're paid millions to MANAGE them. You even had a hydration break to get them together and sort shit out and tell them what YOU wanted them to do. But no, you took off our only attacker with pace for a defender, which meant we had no outlet to go long to. Suicidal.

Digging in and defending worked against Mexico because we had to as were a man down and they are shit, you can't do the same against Messi.
His excuse is that they were getting too many crosses in, so he put more defenders on. Novel idea Tuchel, why not try to win back possession and stop them instead?

It wasn’t just that we defended very deep way too early, we looked like we hadn’t practised that deep defending. The organisation for the last half an hour was atrocious.

I said to my missus just after we scored, we need to weather the next 10 minutes as they are going to throw everyone forwards now

We had the players on the pitch and in the right shape to handle that. We didn't need more defenders on and we lost any capability to break.

I don't know if this is in defence of Tuchel, Southgate and all who came before them

It must be so, so tempting to do what he did last night. Protect what you have, don't chase a second goal amd get caught, don't throw the game away.

The thing to do was to keep doing what we had been doing, they were quite happy doing their shitty, niggly stuff the break the game up and we were handling it admirably, not reacting. I felt we were always a threat wide with Spence, Gordon, Rogers and James even though he left his crossing boots at home. I do understand the temptation to want to close the game out but not with 30 minutes left against a team that absolutely had to score at least once and have form for doing it.

I didn't understand the Gordon for Konsa change, I don't blame Konsa at all byt it forced us into a shape we hadn't used all tournament. The 3 up front does give teams something to think about and thost cheating greasy pricks last night would have overcommitted and given us another chance.

I said after the 3 exits by Southgate and meant it after the QF defeat to France that we are two thirds of the way up the mountain and would win something soon. I have lost my belief a bit in that, the next world cup now feels so far away and the Euros, we will face the same dilemma each time we have a lead to defend and the coaches instinct to prevent defeat rather than ensure victory will creep in again.

Unless we go back to the tried and tested method of conceding first thus forcing positive changes and being aggressive in possession

All the World cups have been won by foreign managers, except England in ‘66.

Also wtf happened to Pickford, those last two goals he was all over the place?! He’s lost his head completely. Harsh on Tuchel, I get the pelters on defence and I think his big mistake was putting Burn on. Yes he’s great in the last two but against technical teams he’s exposed, hugely, the old big English lad wasn’t the option in this game. We needed pace and counter threat but we had none so the Argies knew they could camp as we had no output
Are you seriously blaming Pickford for those two goals…….you must be fucking mocking pal.😡
Pickford has been superb for England. I challenge anyone to name a more consistent goalkeeper for us since David Seaman.

Is he consistent? He was, not sure he is now
Pickford has had a poor tournament. Should have saved Croatia's first goal, Congo's goal, Norway's goal, and he's certainly not without blame for Fernandes' tonight, his positioning was all wrong and that's without the fact it came from a corner he shouldn't have given away. Too many instances for it to be bad luck for me.

As for the Seaman comment, again, at major moments he made crucial errors. Gave away a sloppy pen against Argentina in 98, and then got lobbed with Ronaldinho in 2002. We have a tendency to look back on GKs with rose tinted spectacles IMO.
    You utter pillock. 😡
