    You were the leader of the West Indies team that terrified me as a kid. Every ball of Test Match Special I feared something awful was going to happen.

    RIP. As a lad, I met him in person after an exhibition match. As well as being one of the great cricketers, he was a lovely bloke too.

    He’s the reason I support Notts* instead of Kent, what a fantastic player and by all accounts (some on here) a real gentleman.

    Saw him playing for the International Cavaliers at Blackheath in the 1960s. At the time, there was no first-class cricket on Sundays and the Cavaliers, a scratch team of top players, did charity matches instead. I was quite young but do remember that he hit a huge six

    I remember that too. A young Clive Lioyd played too.

    Back in the day, if they weren't touring, a lot of West Indian players played Lancashire League cricket and topped up their wages by coaching in schools. My old boss was from Bolton and to his regret missed being coached by Gary Sobers by a school term; he did see one of his teachers opening the batting against another school and facing Wes Hall!

    I was there too ..all I can remember was GS hitting sixes into the crowd and St John's ambulance people tending to the wounded .I think Ted Dexter did the same for the Cavaliers..fantastic memories

    Bit like someone I knew who went to a benefit game somewhere up north and Clive Lloyd guested, they had to pause the match as they ran out of balls, the big fella had  clubbed so many out of the ground.
