The match was well worth watching, the first half very enjoyable and without the normal tension that watching England brings. The second half entirely different from the first and a lot more of the usual rollercoaster, but still enjoyable.
The players can come home with their heads held high, even though they didn't reach the final.4 -
Olise had a weird game.Some nice moves and touches, but turned into *insert the worst striker you can think of here* in front of goal.2

Yes it was a low pressure game against a half arsed defence, but with all the concern about who replaces Kane when he retires, scoring 6 goals without him is quite interesting. And none by the replacement centre forward either.
It does show the attacking talent in the team, even without Kane.3 -
Needs perspective.Enjoyable watching Saka and Rashford running at the second string defence when there was no pressure on the game at all.As soon as France decided to bring on their big guns it was a totally different game.3

Was probably the most enjoyable game of the tournament. Both teams were incredibly open which probably said more about their desire for a third place game. Having said that, I think we got a glimpse of how we might have done a bit better if we had put Saka and Rashford on against Argentina. We could have sat back but used them as an outlet which would have forced Argentina not to play so high up the pitch. I found that frustrating.
I thought Bellingham's goal was fantastic btw. Demonstrated what a great player he is. Mbappe did that too and I hope he gets the golden boot.4 -
We've seen Charlton play like England did on Wednesday with no outlet, sometimes getting away with it, but this has been when we had no fit or capable striker. That problem could well be ongoing. Of all the ways to bow out of the tournament, it feels like we lost to the most unforseen and unforgivable act of self destruction. It started to re appear last night with slow subs when we needed them but he appears to have gotten those subs right thankfully.
I'm not sure the role of England manager allows for the 'learning from mistakes' we might allow for in club football. We expected the finished article in Tuchel and clearly haven't got it.2 -

An absolutely bonkers and insanely entertaining game, which had the feel of a novelty exhibition match. A brilliant finale from Bellingham, after we did our best to blow a 4-0 half-time lead.
I had assumed that Saka wasn’t fit for the semi-final last Wednesday but, on the basis of his and Tuchel’s post-match interview, it appears that he was - very frustrating.
There’s some truth in Tuchel’s comments about player fatigue (especially given the number of games our players play), but that’s all the more reason to make use of his substitutes earlier when the opposition are running over us.
Despite the individual talent available to him, Tuchel has not been able to mould them into a cohesive team unit. His comments about ball retention not being in the DNA of English football have some merit but it doesn’t explain away the shortcomings of the side, particularly in defence. Reaching the semi-finals is a good but the manner of the capitulation against Argentina has left a sour taste, which I think Tuchel will struggle to shake off during the rest of his tenure.5 -
Obviously it was a nothing game but it was incredibly entertaining and a joy at the end seeing all of the players from both sides literally laughing with each other like wtf just happened. Football doesn’t have to mean something to be enjoyable it seems.0

I really enjoyed the game of football. But despite our win, I feel even more convinced that Tuchel is not the man for the job. To be 4-0 up and still let the opposition right back into it (should've been 4-4 but for Olise's miss) was terrible. And then there's Chalobah, Ivan Toney and being so slow to sub people who can barely run. Not to mention all the other bad calls. I hope the FA do not waste another tournament on this guy, but I am sure they will.3

Didn't watch, didn't care, it means nothing really, and if anything the result just makes Wednesday's capitulation even more annoying.
Absolutely bizarre that Saka can play 100 minutes in a meaningless game but didn't get on the pitch for a semi-final. He is still far and away our best right-sided attacker.2 -

Was Rashford injured as he scared the life out of France in the first half? I think we needed him against Argentina. Yes they are good if you sit so deep that the ball keeps coming back. That is if you want to play into their hands but they are not so good if you break on them, especially if their two centre halves are on bookings. If I was to be struck down by a lightning bolt if I wrongly blamed Tuchel, I would still blame him. If he is going to be kept on, the FA should seek assurances that won't happen again.0

I wasn't going to watch it either, especially with the KO being 23.00 here. Only switched on because my wife was still out. By the time we'd gone 4 or up I was sipping a triumphant glass of French Calvados.
And then the BBC commentator pointed out that France had been 4-0 down to Spain at H-T and it had only ended 5-4 to Spain in the end, and I got that ominous feeling. Four goals up? Surely we can see that out..it's just that...we are not Spain.
And then France came out looking more business-like and scored as quickly in as we had done in the first half. By the time it got to 3-4 I was convinced we were going to lose, especially as Tuchel appeared to be inert.
Then came the fantastic Spence breakout. But even then we couldn't put it to bed. it goes to 4-5 and I'm thinking they've still got over two minutes, we'll concede again, and then they'll have half an hour to do God knows what to us.
But we have Jude Bellingham. Just like against Norway, he came on and played with the attitude he's going to win this bloody game even if the others are bricking it. Like David Beckham when he hauled us almost on his own to the 2002 World Cup, with that free-kick just the finale to 20 minutes of playing Greece almost on his own. You absolute beauty, Jude.It didn't erase the hurt of Wednesday night, but it made me feel a lot better than I did two hours earlier. And that was before I found out that it was our best tournament since 1966.
