Leaving it late to train for the new season

Now the distraction of the World Cup is over there’s no escaping the looming start to a new season and it’s beginning to dawn on me that somehow I’ve not been drinking much in the way of alcohol in this hot weather. TBF, for a while now matchdays, home and away, have probably been the events where I’ve drunk the most in any ‘continuous session’, usually having around 5-6 pints around a game and I’ve mostly gone off wine in recent years when out dining. A few beers in between matches has generally been sufficient to maintain a tolerance to matchday alcohol consumption. However, so far this summer I seem to have been instinctively drinking more water instead. All very healthy no doubt but if I’m to avoid feeling pissed before the game even kicks off against Derby I’m going to need to up my game over the days remaining before then. I’m starting to fear I’ve left it too late to be ‘match fit’ in time.
