    https://www.thefa.com/news/2026/jul/29/statement-fifa-world-cup-proposal-20262907

We have issued the following statement in response to media reports regarding the FIFA World Cup:

“We were completely unaware of this proposal and have no substantive details, including what the proposition actually is, and what conditions are attached.

“Based on the limited information, we are deeply concerned about the lack of process and governance to get to this point, and the apparent substance and principles involved.

When the proposal is shared in the full and transparent way now promised by FIFA, we will make our views clear, and comment further.”

When. That's the key word here but in all probability it should read 'if'.

As a sport nothing can match football for appeal and passion.
As a business its rotten to the very core.

As many others have said, a World Cup without Europe would be a farce.

And with Messi and Ronaldo (surely) on the way out now the game needs new superstars to take over. Apart from Vinicius Junior the current superstars are all European so how could you have a World cup without the likes of Mbappe, Bellingham, Yamal, Haaland, Dembele, Olise etc?

    Sponsors aren't paying for that.

Both Th FA and CONCACAF statements read as "We are against it until we see how much we will get"

FIFA should be relieved of its task of running world football competitions, simply because it has proven incompetent.

Instead, the World Football Confederation (WFC) should be created.  An independent alliance of the six continental football confederations, created to govern the global game and organise competitions such as the World Cup in place of FIFA. It would be built on transparent governance, independent oversight and fair revenue sharing, giving responsibility for world football directly to its member confederations and national associations rather than a single centralised governing body.

    How would it come about?

The most likely route to creating the WFC would be for UEFA to lead the process by inviting the other five continental confederations to negotiate a new global governing body.

UEFA could use its enormous commercial strength and the value of European competitions to incentivise participation, offering founding members greater influence, guaranteed development funding and a share of future World Cup revenues.

Once UEFA and one or two other major confederations (most importantly CONMEBOL) committed, the commercial value of the new organisation would become difficult to ignore, encouraging the remaining confederations and their national associations to join.

With the world's leading football nations participating, the WFC World Cup would quickly become recognised as the sport's premier international tournament.

    Au revoir FIFA. Arrivederci Infantino.

So both The FA and Concacaf are complaining about the process rather than the substance. Hmmm.

UEFA could change its name so it is no longer eurocentric. Create a framework that prevents individuals within the organisation having the opportunity for corruption and prevent closed shops then withdraw from FIFA and run its own World Cup. I would imagine it will be mostly South Americans playing against each other in the FIFA version if that happened and they can foul and cheat their way through the competition to their hearts content. It would be a shame to lose Brazil but I'm not sure we would..

I guess they’re both hiding behind the fact that there is limited substance to complain about. But I would’ve liked to have seen stronger condemnation of the general idea of it, even without having seen the details.

Sky Sports reporting that Infantino has just stated that federations have until 19th September to back the plan

Those who back it will get access to $40m funding, and those who don’t back it will only get $10m.

    I absolutely despise this man.

Even just mentioning something like this should lead to Infantino getting removed from FIFA immediately.

The FA response is late and weak. They want the 2035 Women’s World Cup in England. It still amazes me that they found the balls from somewhere to reject TS’ “ladies” proposal.

Seems South America and African football backing this, they would be the main beneficiaries of the filthy dollar.

Asian football will back it because of the Oil money, and North America will back it because of Trump

The filthy dollar goes up in smoke if the big boys from Europe tell FIFA to do one. It hard to imagine any World Cup would be seen as attractive without the likes of France, Spain, Germany, Italy (yes they will come good), England, Holland, Belgium et al.
I just hope the above stick together on this but I have my doubts.

Yes. Trump’s greedy hands all over this. I can see this resulting in a split between FIFA and UEFA and, ultimately, a push to make FIFA far more transparent. Hopefully anyway.

We’ve gone from bad to worse with Blatter and now Infantino. Football is too sacred to let this happen.

Josh Kushner is the younger brother of Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump,  daughter of Donald. Trump and his family all making billions of dollars whilst they can.

I bet very little of this money will go to grass roots football.
Just enough to African and Asian associations to ensure they vote for it.

Enough is enough and it's time for EUFA and the leading South American Associations to take a stand. Bug they won't.

…and FIFA will get the go ahead to have the World Cup every two years 💰💵🤑and this will have a huge impact on the EPL fixtures. This will also clash with the Euros and the African cup.
  • Infantino offers 30 million to all members to accept the deal.  Seems like chicken feed when you consider the hundreds of individual players who have been transferred for a figure north of that.

They could change the name to the world series and just play themselves repeatedly in an echo chamber
