Loved watching him play, a leader from a young age and not the biggest defender but you wouldn't notice.  Such a talent.

When he tackled an opponent, the opponent stayed tackled. My kind of player. 66 is far too young.
Condolences to his family and friends
  • One of the greats of Italian and world football. An entire career at AC Milan. Loved watching him play.

    Very sad.

Baresi and Maldini are the two best defenders I've seen in my lifetime.  Was amazing in the 94 World Cup final playing half fit v Romario.

    Absolute class.

    RIP Franco.

Not the quickest, not the biggest - but boy could he read the game. Wonderful player.

    RIP Kaiser Franz

Probably the best defender in history in terms of positional sense and reading the game given that he was a centre back who was only 5ft 9 and therefore couldn't rely on height, so had to be elite in other areas.

He was that good, I hold him with the same regard as Bobby Moore and Franz Beckenbauer.
    RIP.

One of those names that stayed with you. Very sad. Way too young.

Was past his peak when I first watched him, but still an incredible and very classy defender.

Really gutted to hear this. RIP

Better than Bobby Moore……I somehow don’t think so.🙄

Great is an over used word to describe football talent but not in his case. RIP
