So buy and flip was the plan all along.

Unless there is a buyer lined up, who knows how long it will be before a sale and any new investment, not to mention the impact of uncertainty upon the squad etc.

    FFS!

No shit Sherlock! Of course it was - Buy, Add Value, Sell. It is only the timeline that determines how quickly one can add value, or not - stop profit/stop loss.
So your big job is trolling is it?

Got to fill my retirement somehow.

We supposedly have billionaire owners who now in order to “progress” us need to find some more money from someone else. Sounds very much like they are unwilling to spend any more over and above their current levels and agreed commitments. Can’t say I’m enthusiastic about this current closing of the wallet.

right can we go back to moaning about loyalty points, valley gold and east stand bogs.
As I just posted in the rumours thread.....its a non-denial denial.

Not addressed the article as being wrong or inaccurate. Therefore there must be some truth in it, otherwise you would see the words..." the article that appeared in the Guardian is totally untrue. The owners are not looking to sell the club but simply looking for additional investment so that we can be more competitive in the years to come"

You have to read what's not there.
I agree with this, what's not said is as weighty as what is said.

That being said, my approach to the whole thing kind of remains the same. We're up for sale for the right price if that comes along. We're actively looking for investors. I'd say that's probably true of a lot of clubs at our level, and even the level above us. The owners seemingly want to continue funding the club to a certain (not yet fully determined) level so that we stay in the Championship.

If you'd asked me at the start of the summer, I would have probably said about the same, give or take the "up for sale" part. My biggest immediate concern is the current owners continuing to fund us to keep us in the Championship. I think they still need to prove that with this window because as NJ said we've kept our powder dry to this point. I wish our owners were looking to significantly take us up the table, rather than just consolidate, but are are a year ahead of schedule for what they expected, so, you take the rough with the smooth.

These owners aren't forever, but let's be honest, we all knew that. The hope is they at least get us established in the Championship--looking in the grand scheme of things and not just at this summer's transfers, we're off to a good start there. I think their dream is to get us to the Prem, but I don't think they're willing to invest the money to get us there in any way apart from an NJ-induced miracle. So yeah, at some point they're going to get tired of funding losses (no matter how rich they are), and that's where new investment/new owners come in. But there doesn't seem to be a sense of immediacy about that, which is reassuring. Also because, as we well know, football club sales can take a long time, so looking to cash out immediately won't work.

I will always go back to, football clubs are money-losing investments outside of the Prem. These are the kinds of things we're going to have to deal with until something changes with that. That change would need to be top down and systemic, and I'm not holding my breath. But yeah, as I said before, we're at the whims of the wealthy until then.

The way I see it is that this isn’t something that’s just a Charlton thing. Clubs in this league are losing money like no tomorrow, some more so than others. Our owners are just trying to stable a ship in rough waters through further investments

This BBC News article from April really highlights what’s going on https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce35l43w83lo

Carter’s statement seems clear enough to me - we still have a 5 year plan and want to increase investment to achieve it. It just depends on whether or not we believe it

my cousin is best mates with Gavin Carter (GC got my Wembley tickets for me)

I messaged him at 12:34 to say he and the board are getting pelters for not acknowledging the article.

he replied Gavin is in Canada but will message him and see what he can find out - asked for link to this thread.

two hours later a tweet is sent

    MY WORK HERE IS DONE.
So it takes a fan contacting his cousin to ask him to speak to someone at the club to get a response.

Glad to see the club is active & on the ball 🙄

And how do you think billionaires become billionaires?

Throwing millions of £ at tin pot football clubs isn't really on their bingo card.

I Dont really understand why these “decks” if that’s the correct word for this glossy brochure is so secret. It’s basically an advertisement. The more people that see it the better. I get it’s only a select few that it’s aimed at but why shroud it in mystery. Is it really impossible to get a look at it unless your a multi millionaire or investment group ?
Do you not remember the London Stadium saga?

If anyone listened to TalkSport earlier, we were really bigged up by Peterborough Chairman who complimented our ownership and the state of the club making us a very attractive investment right now. Just seen that this article is up too which would be an interesting proposition

Ask yourself how many clubs are not for sale ?? I would venture less than a handful. Anyone that thinks people that buy football clubs are doing it for the love of the club is delusional. The vast majority are looking for a ROI and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The best us fans can hope for is that they are not crooks and I certainly don’t think our current ownership group are that. Having got over the initial shock of that news story last night and seen the reaction from the club I honestly think this is a non story and has no relevance to the ongoing function of the club. I actually think the delay in announcing signings is because we need to get some outgoings first.

Mixed messages, poor window and doubts about some of our key players are not encouraging.

Club needs to send out a clear message as soon as possible and if they sell, the main point is that we get decent owners.

i am anxious about next season and hope we can stay up.

If they do sell mate the odds are decent that the new ownership will be ok. It’s not a situation where we will be sold for £1 to shift us. Anyone who buys us for tens of millions isn’t likely to be fucking about

If the club is looking for new investment from outside the current ownership, there are only two options - you either look for a loan (which you obviously have to pay back at some point and makes no sense for a business like a football club especially when you don't own the ground) or you sell new shares i.e. you are selling part of the company which dilutes the current owners stake in the company. So technically, you can't honestly say the club is not up for sale even if you are only looking to issue new shares to sell to new stakeholders because you are selling part of it. And yes, I know I am being pedantic.

    Gavin Carter X account

I understand press speculation can concern @CAFCofficial fans, so let me address the Guardian story directly.

What I've said publicly several times before, is that this ownership group is seeking new investment to help us progress. This is similar to the route taken clubs like Ipswich, Wrexham and Bolton, and is not new news for Charlton.

I've been inundated with messages since the story broke. Please, don't be concerned. We are a Championship and WSL club, in a better position than we've been for 20 years. The 5 year plan requires we reach Championship average revenues by 2027-28, and we're increasing spend on players to back that.

This ownership group has been nothing but good for this club. We’re focussed on channelling all our energy into driving the club forward with our supporters and with that togetherness I'm confident we'll continue to achieve our ambitions for Charlton.

Meet the Directors, our bi annual CharltonTV present is scheduled for Thursday week!
This is the line from the club, but I bet the document the Guardian saw was offering a full sale otherwise they wouldn't have run with the story.

Yeah that's how I'd see it too. I don't think the guardian would have ran the story if the document wasn't looking for a full sale.
See my comment from last night. The grauniad wouldn't understand an investment prospectus if it was written in Janet and John language
  • I think people are now hearing what they want. Am sure the guardian article is closer to the truth than what Carter says. He’s not actually denying it

Doesn't at any point say 'We don't want to sell the club' though.

Wonder how long they're happy to put up with the losses if this 'further investment' doesn't come through from the second firm tasked with finding some.
This. They've intentionally not addressed the actual article headline which says we're up for sale.

To that end, we are clearly up for sale. The proof will be if they give Jones the funds to buy the players we need to stay up.
They don’t need to, so many conspiracies and people who think as there specific need isn’t met, it’s all a stitch up against them
Have you seen the document? it probably says that shares are available for sale which is what you do when you seek new investment, the scribblers at the Grauniad will misinterpret anything.

Take him at his word. Think they now need a few signings and hand onto Lloyd and co.
  •  If they are raising money they will be offering new shares in Global Football Partners to investors at a price for say 20%. The club would still be owned by GFP but with a new investor.
If those investors suddenly offer more than the GFP  values the shares at and  want to buy some more it is not unthinkable that the current shareholders of GFP would sell them some or all of their own holding. GFP will still own the club.  The club is not being sold by GFP but GFP are seeking more money to help us in the championship.
The comments about the poor state of the Valley annoy me. I do not know  what the terms of the lease are but given the sum being paid to ducktape I would guess he is not doing his job as landlord. Lack of maintenance reduces the value of DUcktapes investment so possibly it will inevitably be cheaper to buy at the end of the day. Only do what you have to keep the ground operating, if the owners invest in the ground it will be burning £50 notes

Increasing investment means diddly if that increase still leaves you behind your competitors. We need to be able to compete financially pdq because The Championship will find you out.

After all this fuss, justified or not only time will tell, one thing remains true. We have not bought anybody in midfield to transform our relegation bound squad into one that can survive.

Well can’t say supporting The Addicks is boring, but I’m bored by endless owners & statements saying all will be OK. I just hope this means Jones can get on and recruit a creative midfield and get a striker in. my season ticket arrived today and wouldn’t it be nice to just look  forward to next season rather than another period of potential upheaval with our owners . Till an owner buys back The Valley from Dushbag can see the uncertainly continuing ….
