I went to that preseason game at Welling. He was embarrassingly unfit.

Jeremy Goss. Near enough made my parents have to remortgage waiting on clubcall until the end for 20 mins to hear that he had signed. Only to then find out he hadnt

Yes, but understandable - he was making too much money with Bros.

    I'll get me coat.

Seem to remember us being linked to Matt Upson a few times in the papers.

Also seem to recall Powell being very keen on Lewis Dunk in his early days before Brighton got to the Prem.

Jeffrey Schlupp also seemed to rumour a few times early on under Powell too.

Cool Story - i bumped into Goss at Fawkham Manor Hospital when i had an operation to remove the plate from my leg - he'd been in for his medical I believe.  Would have been some time between summer of 96 if i remember correctly as i was signed off work for a month

    The Arsenal midfielder….forgotten his name
Kezman - was gutted about that one
Kinsella was a bit touch and go for a while too.
    Flamini

Reportedly one of the wealthiest men to come from the football world.

Yeah, him and Louis Saha now multi billionaires with net worths multiples of Messi and CR7. Impressive.
Worth remembering net worth does not equal wealth, net worth means rich on paper but not in liquidity. Though i am sure thry are both relatively wealthy anyway in cash.

Maybe its the pretentious arse in me but I roll my eyes everytime the CR7 link to us, I am sure we may have been interested in him but so was almost every club in europe at the time. Almost every top flight club in a major leage in europe with a scouting sysem knew about CR7 from 13/14 years old.

What I do find strange is that the artcile named us and Man U as both looking at him, I suspect we were there looking at other players at the time. Its worth noting that is Sir Alex's autobiography he mentioned when they signed him they already had a deal in place to sign him the following summer but played them in pre-season friendly then decided to bring it forward. Was CR7 ever coming to the Valley to play for Charlton? In the words of Jordan Belfort "absolutely f**king not"

I'm sure I remember we had all but secured a deal for Eidur Gudjohnsen before Chelsea came in at the last minute.

Aleksi Mykhaylichenko, I went down to Bournemouth for a pre-season game and I am certain he played in it.
Perhaps @shirty5 or @JohnnyH2 can confirm this?

I think there was a double bid in for him and Claus .  2 great technical footballers

I went to the FA cup Quarter Final away when we were favourites to win and the flying Finn keeper Jaaskelainen was MOM and a young Gudjohnsen scored the winner.
So I assume this was why we knew he was a good prospect.

Chelsea 😤 made my blood boil even before the Scott Parker saga and with Rodgers from Villa now going there I'm broken ⛓️‍💥
