Great work to get that out so quickly. Anyone see Danny Mac brandishing a “card” there?
It was on the wider shot on Sky Sports. Still a total overacting from the ref
When you “wave a card” you have to hold your arm up vertically, surely? He doesnt do that at all, his arm is outstretched at 90 degrees towards the other side of the pitch, he is obviously referring to his own yellow.

BTW i am referring to the same “wider shot”. Charlton TV have to use the same feed as Sky broadcast, as I understand it, certainly at away games.
Perhaps Madeley has eyes like Marty Feldman, might explain some of his decisions.

Even my Stoke supporting nephew says the ref made shocking decisions.

I do wish we took a more positive approach to things like two away games in a week. We’re not being victimised in that - it’s just how the fixtures fall and sometimes we will benefit. To suggest we are disadvantaged and make a big song and dance about it (eg including staying away from Tues/ Weds to Saturday) is not good psychological prep imho. I’d equate it to a sales environment - there’s one case of someone not buying because… and before you know it, conversion rates drop across the whole sales team and when challenged the same excuse is trotted out. Self-fulfilling prophesies and all that.

Today was a massive learning curve for NJ. Making sweeping changes to the starting XI proved to be a step too far, but you have to credit the lads for showing genuine grit in that second half—fighting on when you're 4-0 down takes real character.

Absolute class from the away end today, too. Top-tier support regardless of the score.

NJ is still a quality manager getting a lot out of what he’s got. One horror result doesn't change that, so no need to hit the panic button just yet. On to Wednesday night. COYR!

The thing is, he has been in charge for nearly 500 games, so this is not a lesson he should be needing to learn.

I genuinely think he feels he was forced into it because of the schedule/niggles to players.

But I think he has to be braver than that. If something happens, it happens.

Think the ref performance overshadowed a few issues .. two mistakes in two games for Bindon not seen anyone  mention that .. bit of a worry and  AO performance in goal was disappointing concerned about him not commanding his area and taking the pressure of the defence .. ..

0-0 2nd half.  Shame about the 15th to the 40th minute when all the partnerships stopped working and we got hit for 4 goals.

It did look ugly defending by Ouma for the Pen but he watches his idol, Declan Rice do that every week when defending a corner and nothing is given !

We started so well and the Penalty totally changed the game.
Early on Timothy passed the ball straight to a Stoke player but no harm was done.

The 2nd goal in the 22nd was a tad unlucky initially with the clearance by Ouma hitting Grant and falling for Galbraith but we did this against West ham when the defence don't push out to get a block in and poor Arthur is unsighted. A good strike but it should have been blocked.

The 3rd goal was a good cross from the left which Mesik couldn't stop and Lloyd pointed to Bindon to take Hirst but good movement by the striker and it's 3 nil in 25 minutes.

TC is now taken off so I assume it was game over from NJ point of view as you wouldn't normally take off your attacking outlet and a player in form with 4 goals already ?

The 4th goal is again a player on the edge of the box unmarked and if I'm allowed to criticise a player I love and we all do, Lloyd Jones should be pushing the defence out to block the ball as again it's nearly impossible for Arthur with so many players from both sides in his way.

I would expect the normal suspects to have a field day after this scoreline it a good time for the doomsters !
Billy Mix, Golfie etc will take centre stage and I will put my scores on the doors and explain my marks.

Enjoy the rest of the day ☀️

9 points at this stage I think most would have taken at the beginning of the season. Go again against Qpr and keep a clean sheet. We can keep a special place in the memory bank when stoke come to us.

It was the 'wider' shot from the gantry side of the pitch (lower down than the gantry) and not the view from behind the Stoke end

The spare ball is nearer to the pitch, a few seconds later & DMc getting his yellow.

I found this funnier than I probably should have.
  • Jones got the selection all wrong.

We folded like a pack of cards.

The ref was so bad I think he took a bribe.

Their fans made no noise, even when 4-0 up. They were at their loudest when NJ walked past them. Pathetic.

Their fans threw bottles and objects at Lloyd Jones, that needs proper investigating.

I booked the 17.10 train home so I could explore some of Stoke with my boy. What a mistake. The best thing is a Sainsburys.  Never has the song, "You have to live here, we get to go home" been more apt.  I have finally found somewhere worse than both Stevenage and Coventry which I didn't think was possible.
  • Ref was very poor. BUT on the penalty, you just cannot wrap your arms around someone and hold him right in front of the ref.
They are meant to be clamping down on all that this season so don't give him a decision to make.
Naive defending from a player obviously not at this level yet.

Maybe a midfield without both Coventry and Chalobah isn’t the way to go.

    More observations........

We win 3 games & lose 1 and we have a negative goal difference.

That co-incides with the fact that only 1 team in the top half of the table had scored less than us.....and that is Brum who play tomorrow.

Our Achilles heel still exists......we just don't score enough goals. And we really havent strengthened the striking position. We brought in Grant but he is playing either on the wing or behind the striker.

First question, why was Nkeng not on the bench over powerpuff Apter?

Referee was terrible but let's not excuse how we completely collapsed after the first goal. Fans were brilliant and just glad we didn't concede again. Jones just cannot deal with playing his old sides. The less said about Bindon, Ouma, JRC and Skipp, the better.

Mac's red card puts us in a tricky spot for Wednesday. Are Ramsay and/or Edwards ever going to come back?
I’d imagine it will be JRC filling in at RB… cover for that may be an issue though.

You say that, but I bet it’s happening in very game up and down the country today - and will happen in our game at the weekend.

If a penalty was given every time this happened this weekend, we would see about 50 pens, shit decision from someone trying to make a name for themselves again.

Started well and I was actually thinking to myself, how it was nice to finally see a Charlton team that looked like it was a physical match for a traditionally strong, powerful outfit.

Then Madley decided to get involved. That is the softest of soft penalties. 9/10 that isn't given and if VAR is in the Championship then it is overturned as they were both holding, it is just that the Stoke bloke decided to throw himself to the floor.

I am not for one moment saying Ouma had a good game, but as I said on the match thread the pile on was embarassing and seems to fit this Charlton Fan obsession with having someone to scapegoat and slag off. He clearly wasn't passing to Grant for the second, it was an attempted clearance that hit our player and dropped perfectly for Stoke. If you are going to call out Ouma why are you not equally questioning Skipp? A player established in this country who has played loads in the premier league and championship was utterly anonymous.

TBH I am more concerned with how poor Bindon has looked in his 2 games. His weak header gave West Brom a goal on Weds and he completely went to sleep for the 3rd goal today. Stood and watched the bloke. So he is currently 2 games played, 2 goals on him.

The 4th goal sums up a day when everything that could go wrong did. Their player was jumping out of the way of a shot going wide and it clips his heel and goes in.

All that being said the collective mental collapse for 20 minutes after the penalty stunk of Charlton teams of yesteryear.

Back to the referee and Linesman, I actually think the corner not given from the back pass was up there as one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. It was 3 yards over the line when their keeper cleared it.

I left the 'hi-lights' running at full time as I wanted to see McNamara's sending off again. An absolute joke of a decision. He was sent off for pointing at the goal which was interpreted as waving his hand asking for a card. Utter nonsense.
Your paragraph about Ouma is spot on. No idea why there always has to be a fool guy on here, but as soon as your name is black then that's it, you're done for.

Even leaving out the pen and the clearance, in both today's game and the previous one he played he kept giving the ball away in central positions. You just can't do that as a defensive mid and get away with it for long in the Champ.

Really looking forward to the reaction if PeterGage comes on here later and tells us why all Madley's decisions were in fact correct
To be fair, if you look at the penalty or the red card in isolation, they may be justifiable. The problem, as I mentioned earlier, was consistency. And that’s both consistency with what all the other refs in the league are doing (giving a pen rather than speaking to people wrestling in the box, then retaking the corner), and consistency throughout the game (bookings for us, not bookings for them, often for worse offences).

The only exception is the corner that wasn’t given, which was absolutely, clear as day, a wrong decision. But that doesn’t necessarily make the decision to book McNamara wrong.

Dont get me wrong, I’m not defending the ref. He had a honking game. But individual decisions are defendable.

And whether you agree with @PeterGage or not, he gives his opinion in good faith and I respect his expertise. I understand why it might sometimes seem like he’s defending refs all the time, but that’s often because he brings a perspective we might not all have.

Edit: I should add, in no way would I presume to speak for @PeterGage
I’ve no idea what his opinion is on these incidents.

Best we have played in a four-goal beating.

Too many changes and experiments at the same time. Just cope with the injuries before experimenting.

Was never a fan of Jones as captain. Not the right temperament or position and detracts from his own game. I would suggest Skipp, but it might cause him to lose the rest of his hair.

Was Campbell injured, or jut being saved for Wednesday? If the latter, surely Jones had not written the Stoke game off that early?

Have you seen our players having their shirts pulled bundled to the ground week in week out and nothing if that’s a pen then you should see 10 every game let’s see on Wednesday when we have a free kick or corner you watch
