Starting XI for QPR on Weds

With multiple defenders out injured (Ramsay, Sichenje, Burke, Koumetio, Edwards), one suspended (McNamara) and Bell known to have issues if he’s pushed past his limits, how will this impact the starting line up on Wednesday night?

We could go into it with Mesik RB and Bell LB again but we’re in even deeper sh*t if Bell goes down at that point.

Would NJ look at a 3-5-2 with Bindon, Jones & Mesik and Rankin-Costello & TC as wing backs, at least for the evening, knowing that McNamara would be available on Saturday?

That’s before we even begin thinking about changes to the midfield and Leaburn baring a massive weight with both Godden and Kelman unable to feature. Does Mbick get a start at home?

What do we think NJ will do?

Beat me to it. Exactly what I’d expect (although with Jones on the right of the CB pairing)

    I don't want us to over-use Bell.

    Rankin-Costello can play RB.

I'd go Mesik at LB, Jones, Bindon, JRC.

Then bring Bell back in on Saturday against a Portsmouth team who aren't playing midweek.

If we're going to rest Bell, make it in the game McNamara is available for

Even if Bell starts, that means our only defensive options off the bench could be Tagoe (18yo) and Josh Laq. Unless we play JRC or someone else out of position.

Isn’t JRC fairly experienced at RB? Would definitely prefer that to a youngster. Would probably start Bell as we can then rest him on Saturday when McNamara is back. But if Bell genuinely can’t play then I’d go for JRC at RB & Mesik at left back.
  • We only have to manage selections for 3 games until the 3 week International break. So Wednesday,  Saturday, Saturday. Agree rest Bell, when MacNamara back. Assuming Bell in good shape eh hum. Gough discuss, but he needs regular and consistent minutes

Yh, JRC's experience will 100% be better. However, would have to be worried about his pace. We shall see.
  • Good call, back 3

QPR have some pretty speedy players I think, would that be a concern if JRC was at right back, obviously he had experience in that position at Blackburn, but that’s a while back isn’t it?

Law of luck and averages says someone has to be back by Weds.

Koumetio and Kelman surely on the bench

What about Burke  ?  He must be fit now, or do we think he us the one not registered. ?

He might be fit but is he fit enough to start the game? If so then he could play right back, has done it plenty of times in his career

Don’t think we’ll risk either until after the international break, rushing players back killed us last year

Has there been any update on the Chalobah injury? Big Billy potentially back ? May have to wait to Saturday.

Was going to say this too. Wasn’t it said Stoke was too soon for Koumetio? If so maybe he’ll make the bench on Wednesday, hopefully Kelman too.

Hope he doesn’t but NJ may feel he has to go 3-5-2 if nobody is returning, if so who plays as the wingbacks? Mesik left, who on the right? Vinson , jones, Bell back 3.

Alli or Nkeng maybe? Both have played wing back previously a fair bit and would work as an attacking wing back option in our old set up

I don’t think we should or will change to a back 3 though

Yes maybe, I agree about changing, but hope that doesn’t end up giving us more injuries with certain players,Bell mainly.

There has already been too much overworrying about the next match after. Put out your strongest team to win the game and then worry about the next match after that. Trying to second guess injuries and sendings off is a fools errand.Had we played Coventry instead of Ouma on Saturday we might not have lost that game

Play your strongest team , and stop making to many changes as it just breaks momentum

Pretty sure the plan was DMac gets a rest Saturday and Bell Wednesday. Looks like Bell will have to play both. Laq will be on the bench.

Bet we wish we'd kept Asiimwe! ;)

Even slower than JRC tho. Slower than an iceberg infact.

I do enjoy how 5 games is all it's taken to go from 'we need to fuck useless Coventry off to League Two where he can be slow and bad at passing' to 'Conor you are my only chance to survive please help please please'

JRC at rb would concern me. Smyth would be a stripey blur going past him, always seems to play well against us. They took Chair and Kone off with knocks Wednesday but one or both possibly available Wednesday. I don't like us keep moving Ivan around but I'd start him at rb and hope Bell can manage 1 more before a possible rest Saturday when the Mac Russell returns and Ivan can go to the left.

Playing Alli as wingback would be disastrous

Alli and Nkeng have some beefiness to them, but I'm not sure they have the discipline for wing or full back. We're running scarily low in defence

I agree but he has done it before for Luton. We will stick with the back 4 I’m pretty sure
  • Time to experiment.

Give Apter another chance at right back and see what Alli is like at left back. :-)
