380 Bus Diversions
Trying to find a definitive answer to what time the 380 bus diversions start and end on matchday? What I can find suggests 30 mins before KO and 30 mins after the final whistle. However on Wednesday we went to catch the 380 to Lewisham that was due at 10.40 (thereby allowing 40+ minutes after the whistle) and the first one turned up at 11.02. Driver said it was due to restrictions just being lifted. This didn't seem to stop the three 486 buses we saw go past… Anyone got a link to an actual TFL page that has the answer, 'cos I am struggling to find one?

I opened this thread expecting to see a list of 380 bus diversions!
Sorry AA, unable to advise you on that.2 -
Take it everybody else is as in the dark as I am then? I'll try and get an answer from TFL0

Would you not use the live tracker for busses on the tfl site? Assuming you carry a smartphone it can be very useful.

Use it a lot, SA. It's mostly fantasy. Tuesday at 10.30 it was saying 17 minutes ( it's nearly always 17 minutes, no matter what the routeswords_alive said:Would you not use the live tracker for busses on the tfl site? Assuming you carry a smartphone it can be very useful.

) it got down to 3 minutes and disappeared, being replaced by another one saying - yes, you've guessed it - 17 minutes. That one did actually happen...

All that means is 17 minutes is how far away the bus stop you're at is away from the bus terminus. So it'll be 17 minutes, 17 minutes, 17 minute, 17 minutes, until suddenly it's less. Which means the bus has left the terminus, and is on it's way...Algarveaddick said:

If course, that may mean it's 17 minutes away for an hour...1 -
Download the TFLGO App which picks up which stop you are at. It is more accurate than the site you are using. The 380 is on a diversion all the time at present due to Woodside Terrace being closed due to unsafe structure.0

The tfl tracker & diversion times are a law unto themselves.
I started last season waiting at the bus stop in Charlton Church Lane (the one before Sundorne Ave), which does not have any digital displays. My son had the EFL tracker & would update us on the times. This was invariably wrong & once spent almost an hour waiting for a 380 to turn up. Once we even walked up Charlton Church Lane & caught one nr Charlton Park.....only to find it going down Charlton Church Lane when still showing it's on diversion
I ended up walking the other way out of the ground & catching it in Thorntree Road, opposite the primary school. At least then you are on it before it decides if it is going on diversion or not

That happened to us (see above) and I can only assume that the 17 mins is accurate all the way down to the 3 mins. But then it goes on diversion (through Charlton village & straight on to the Royal Standard) & therefore misses out where you are. So, once at Charlton Park (last stop before it turns down Charlton Church Lane) it is 3 mins away but then it "disappears" off its normal route & the tracker re-starts with the next bus due.Algarveaddick said:

Well, that's my theory anyway.
So I'd catch it before it goes on diversion, either opposite the Primary school on Thorntree Road or a bit further up by the mini roundabout at the junction of Thorntree & Charlton lane.0 -
Use Citymapper for proper up to date travel on the day. Cant answer your actual question tho.
but any Londoner out and about should be using the above. Although sometimes you do just have to change the setting to pick easiest not the actual quickest. Very up to the minute.3 -
When I get the answer from TFL, I'll post it.0

So here it is. Lots of empathy without actually suggesting any solution to the the problem whatsoever, or any indication of any intention to improve communication so us punters can find out what the fuck is going on...
"Thank you for contacting us about route 380 following the match at The Valley. I’m grateful for your patience while I investigated your concerns.
I’m sorry to learn about the length of time you were left waiting for a bus after the match. I appreciate how frustrating and confusing this must have been, particularly when you were expecting the diversion to have ended and could see other buses travelling through the area while you waited.
I’ve looked into the arrangements in place for football matches at The Valley to provide some clarification.
On matchdays, routes 380 and 486 can be diverted for up to one hour after the final whistle. For route 380, buses are diverted in both directions via Charlton Road, Wyndcliff Road and Eastcombe Avenue. During this time, they are unable to serve Charlton Church Lane, Wellington Gardens or Victoria Way.
As the match finished at 21:58, this means the diversion could have remained in place until approximately 22:58. I appreciate this may not have been clear from the information you had seen beforehand, and I understand why you questioned what had happened when the 22:40 service did not arrive as expected.
Route 486 is also subject to matchday diversions for up to an hour after the final whistle. However, it follows a different diversionary route, which may explain why you saw 486 buses passing through the area while route 380 was still unable to follow its usual route.
I appreciate how important it is to have clear information about these arrangements when planning your journey, particularly later in the evening. I hope this helps to clarify why the driver advised you that route 380 was still on diversion at the time.
Thank you again, Perry, for reaching out and giving us the opportunity to clarify this for you. I hope the information provided makes the matchday arrangements clearer and helps when planning any future journeys around The Valley."

As someone that lives just off the 380 route - it's not consistent at all and I wouldn't rely on catching a bus at least an hour before and an hour after. It's quite common for buses on the 486 to be trapped in Charlton Church Lane. I think the 380 diversion is overkill, but I think they err on the side of caution as too many car drivers are unable to drive properly on match days.Algarveaddick said:Trying to find a definitive answer to what time the 380 bus diversions start and end on matchday? These live maps may help on the day as they track buses even on diversion (they're very useful for me at the moment with the Woodland Terrace closure, which means buses drop off TfL Go/Citymapper/etc):2

It really takes no longer to walk to Thorntree Road than it does to walk to the stop in Charlton Church Lane. At least then you are on the bus no mattter what it does - diversion or no diversion.0
