Taking up golf again after a 25 year break. New clubs have just arrived. Weekends will have a purpose again when Charlton aren't playing. My vets football team play about 3 games a year now, my kids no longer play so no watching or coaching and the snooker, tennis and bowls novelty has worn off. Weekends without sport and booze? No thanks.

I think the break will help us.

Ain't gonna help the forum. Be outright war after 3 weeks of no football.

Three week!?!?!? FFS, I hadn't realized it was that long. WTF are they playing at with the fixture list this season? Yet we have pundits scratching their heads why there are so many more injuries in the game, than we seemed to see in the past.

  • Going for a nice break in Spain prior to knee replacement on return! Going to punish the old fella before it is whipped out!

Ridiculous....hate international football other than the actual competitions.....ie World Cup and Euros.......qualifying and friendlies do them after season finished
It should be one break in each half of the season in my opinion.  Footballers play too much club football in general these days, particularly in the Prem and the expansion of the European club trophies.

I know there are those England fans that enjoy following us for all the qualifiers etc, but with the Nations League, there’s just unnecessary schedule imo.  I always get up for the tournaments but over the years have been massively put off by the qualifiers, the tediousness of most of the games, and although I can’t speak for everyone, I’d wager most fans are club before country

The knock on effect is that we’ve had 3 back to back weeks of 2 games in a week, it’s hampered us and many other clubs

The Prem teams will feel the same given a lot of their players have been involved in the WC.

The whole thing needs sorting.  Instead of playing everyone twice in the qualifying groups, play once.  So what if you’ve got a group for the qualifiers and England had to play one more away game than they did home.  They often can’t schedule all the teams to play qualifiers on the same intl break anyway, and will fill it with a friendly.

Not sure what it does to revenues for the FA etc, and I don’t think it would have a knock on effect for how we perform at tournaments

unfortunately it’s never going to reverse, but I’d love to see less intl football during the season

NZ for Bindon and I imagine Jamaica for TC and Bell
  • I’m not a big fan of the breaks. That being said we definitely are in need of this one.

Hopefully gives everyone time to get fit and ready to go
  • Just seen from the call ups of Ouma, Coventry and Mesik that their national sides each have 4 games scheduled during the international break period.
  • The Championship schedule is a shambles now, because of all the club European games compressing the domestic timetable, and the late start due to the World Cup.

8 rounds of league games and 3 rounds of the EFL Cup by the 19th September

And it's not as if the players get a break, as a lot will be flying around the world for international matches. While 36 Championship players featured at the World Cup, so didn't get a proper break until late June at the earliest.
  • I have very little to zero interest in watching England during this international break. There is a well regarded football administration body who can sort scheduling  out, run by honestly …a well respected man oh hang on is this FIFA responsibility or is it FA to do with that mob and UEFA who are in charge?

I guess Nathan can have a break in Wales after Saturday’s match. Recharge for next set of EFL fixtures, get players fit and work with the new players, so we’re ready to pick up on an excellent start to the season…Let’s hope COYA’s

I feel like when I was a kid in the 90s, with fewer teams qualifying for major tournaments, every England qualifier had a real sense of jeopardy. You actually looked forward to the next one coming around because the result genuinely mattered.

I remember the hype and nervous anticipation around the final France 98 qualifier in 1997, Italy v England. The game itself turned into an epic battle, and getting the 0-0 draw we needed to qualify felt like a huge achievement. Those sorts of games just don't seem to have the same significance anymore.

And if we got rid of qualifiers altogether to benefit the Football League season, how would international tournaments even work? Would we just arbitrarily have the top 20 nations qualify automatically because they're supposedly good enough, leaving everyone else to fight for the remaining spots? And what would happen to the England team if they were basically only playing tournaments, with very little competitive football in between?

I understand the argument about reducing the international calendar, but getting rid of qualifying altogether seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

One could argue that for, let’s say, every three players who’ve played an international match in the last 12 months, you get an extra squad member allowance.

So, for example, you have 6 players who meet this criteria,  you can have 27 squad members rather than 25.

I’m not surprised why we’ve had a few players pull out with ‘injuries’

We’ve just come off the back of the WC, the tournament made bigger this year so for those players that made it through to the latter stages, a long old season - I don’t doubt for the majority, it’s always an honour and privilege to play for your country, but looking at the fixtures we’ve got this overly engineered Nations League that has an impact on the Euro Qualifiers in that if you mess up the Euro qualifiers, but do well in the Nations League, you can still qualify for the Euros.  That is just ridiculously convoluted.  Why do you need a separate tournament to influence success in another - it’s basically the authorities just trying to justify the tournament.   The Euro qualifiers don’t even start until March next year

of course you might get some entertaining and hard fought games, but for me, it’s simply overkill - I genuinely believe the players don’t need this, the fans don’t necessarily want it and it’s such a waste of time just after the WC

    others may see it differently
