Phil Chapple Out?
Frittered away the clubs resources at this level too often. Poor scouting and some dreadful signings. Should he go? Surely we could do so much better.

Very easy to forget how good some of his signings have been thoughWoolwichAddick said:Frittered away the clubs resources at this level too often. Poor scouting and some dreadful signings. Should he go? Surely we could do so much better.
Bell, Carey, Bree, Clarke, Dykes, Coady, Fevrier all improved us last season and Sichenje looks a good signing when not picking up injuries and Kelman definitely has a good player in there
This season Mesík, Koumetio, Okonkwo and McNamara look good, Chalobah is quality when fit and Nkeng is one for the future.
Yes the injury prone players is annoying but it's what we can afford. I don't think anyone else in our bit of the league are signing Mesík, Fevrier, Sichenje, Bell or McNamara but they all seem like pretty shrewd signings to me13 -
Someone come up with our signings over the past 2 and a bit years to compare
Does feel like anytime we spend big money they tend to disappoint. Whereas free transfers and lower fees tend to be better value0 -
I’d be more inclined to ask the board exactly WTF they are playing at, are they supporting the scouts/ management enough financially to get the players of the standard needed. It’s not looking like it to me, feels like they are pulling the ripcord10

Our best players were all signed before he joined despite us spending something like £12-15M since he came in.
Lloyd Jones
TC
Leaburn
Coventry
Edwards
Mesik and Akonkwo look good. Koumetio and Chalobah likewise but won't be fit much.2 -

We're going to finish September with 12 points on the board, and possibly in the playoff places. I think most of us would've taken that before the season started.19 -

Scouts make recommendations not decisions, and you may as well ask about recommendations that weren’t pursued as much as any that were.

What on earth is wrong with some people.......13

I agree, I think the concern is we aren’t exactly trending the right way with performances and results, can people honestly say they fancy us to win the next three games?, if we flipped our season results I’d say the conversation would be very different, however the coaching team have a few weeks to get things sorted, because if performances don’t improve on today/stoke there will be reason for meltdown.Gillis said:fenaddick said:

Alli and Ouma look so out of their depths at this level you do have to wonder what the Scouting team thought when they recommended them to the management team
Or did they?1 -
Glad to see people aren't overacting.15

Here we go again writing players off less than 10 games into their Charlton careers.
Great bunch of supporters we have.7 -

Chapple out??? What f@cking nonsense.
Airman Brown and various others have summed things up correctly and eloquently in my opinion.2 -
I think this type of discussion is typical of any club and any bunch of supporters, it’s not a Charlton thing.Bournesnr said:Here we go again writing players off less than 10 games into their Charlton careers.

Yh because nothing screams sack worthy over 1M of transfer fees in Alli and Ouma. Both are crap but it’s not like we’ve spent 20M on 5 different players and they all turned out to be rubbish1

Was a good player for us. Always committed.
Therefore I find this thread disrespectful.3 -

It is a football thing, I'm 60 and I find fans of my generation have more patience and understanding of the game than supporters half my age.

Which is interesting because I’m half your age and have the opposite experience. Think it’s less age and more personalityElfsborgAddick said:Bournesnr said:Here we go again writing players off less than 10 games into their Charlton careers.

How many games do you give a player before they are deemed a failure? A manager as well come to that.

That some people naturally have more patience than others, regardless of ageElfsborgAddick said:fenaddick said:

Meaning? My take in general.A club sack a manager and bring another one in, they have seen that he has been successful enough to warrant giving them a job. After ten games the results have not gone well and they get the bullet, it happens, I do no not understand this as patience is needed and that the club saw in the manager to give him a contract. I extend this to players and that supporters must realise the financial implications of offloading players within minutes of signing for a club.3 -
PS, a lot of people were wanting Jones out after the Crawley home game.Fortunately there were other ideas with the board.4
