How many of these PCNs did you get done for ?

IMG_5290.png

I (my car(s), because my wife also drives it occasionally, has generated a few over the years though so far (earlier) this year all I’ve got done for is driving at 23mph in a 20mph zone so clearly with 10 million plus PCNs having been issued I’ve clearly not been doing my bit.

You utter, utter bastard! 23mph..hangings too good etc, etc...
  • My wife got a PCN for not giving way.  Very bizarre. She appealed and said the van the other side had a waived her through so they waived the PCN.  Seemed a waste of time as surely most people would simply say the same.

I did the course, they polled those there to see what speeds they got caught at. Some were saying 21mph and 22mph.

There’s no way, you should get done at those speeds, a normal car speedo reads with a 10% error compare to a calibrated one that the police will have in a traffic car.

You don't usually hear about this sort of pcn much but there is a camera car often parked up on salters hill in crystal palace land which is notorious for catching drivers not giving way.

Most forces, including the Met, follow the NPCC guidance and enforce at 10%+2 mph

As I understand it, that ‘10%’ leeway no longer exists because the speed cameras are more accurate these days. Whatever speed they record you were doing is what you were doing. It’s worth also remembering that those limits are a maximum, not a target; and that they apply from the point where the first sign is displayed so slowing down after it is applying is too late. My car, being EU/German, is one of those that  automatically notifies me if I’m exceeding the speed limit for the section of road I’m on but that’s too late if there is a camera there, as I found out to my cost.

It's never been a question of how accurate the cameras are. It's how accurate the speedo in your car is.

That’s not what we were told when I took the ‘get out of 3 points’ course with a bunch of others earlier this year.

Over the past 12 months I've had a PCN for going through one of those local traffic managing schemes (looked like a wooden plant pot) and went through Central London so had to pay the Congestion Zone charge.

All very unnecessary imo. Not speeding or parking illegally.

The 10% error allowed for speedometer reading was because earlier mechanical systems had to allow for wear tyre pressure / tyre wear had to be adjusted for as well. More modern cars have 4% error due to being mainly electronic, and only the rolling circumstances of the tyres need to be adjusted for.
All gauges for cars are indicative only.
( Only Truck Tachographs are calibrated)

An old school Traffic PC told me this.
” If you are overtaking everything, you are going to fast… If everything is overtaking you then you are going to slow “

Plenty of evidence that the Met are not working to those guidelines and prosecuting people driving at only 21 or 22 mph in a 20 mph zone.

    Take my word for that.

  • As we are on the subject, speed cameras aren’t the only ones recording your driving speeds..

Kent Police definitely still stick to the guidelines.

The Met did up to around a year ago, didn't realise they'd changed their policy.

I love driving in London but the downside…it’s a minefield of restrictions & multiple traps to pick up PCN’s - Quite a figure 10million PCN being issued in 24/25 ….But if there is grounds to contest it’s worth it …but you may have to take it all the way  to the independent tribal ..
I’ve won a few including having  my car lifted & taken to a car pound on a Sunday from a bay in Kensington took it all the way to London Tribunal & got my money back & another time driving down a road which had restricted use around school times… to boring to go into but poor signage in both cases

It’s only going to get worse as councils & TFL clambour to get more coffers in …as their funds decrease …

Bureaucracy is its own industry isn't it

And the van on irish plates that block the road to my yard every day after 2pm on double, double yellows remain un-ticketed and un-removed. This sort of shit penalises the wrong people

It's a barrel of laughs doing 20mph down park lane with a rudeboy with his hood up driving a double decker right up ya arris flashing you to get a move on while the police are pointing their hair dryer at you.
