Goodbye to my dog

This afternoon my 14 year old flat coated retriever lost his battle with cancer and was put to sleep , I understand that it was the best thing for him but it is very hard to take.

Sorry to hear that mate. As you say it's for the best for them which is most important but doesn't make it any easier for you.

    I'm thinking of you.

Really sorry to hear your sad news @lancashire lad. You have absolutely done the right thing for him even though it’s very painful for you for having done so. Just remember the good times you have had together and that you have given him a happy life in a loving home. Thinking of you at this very sad time.

Mate I've been through it twice now and it's just so heartbreaking. I'm so sorry. It won't always hurt as bad as it does right now, but it will always hurt. They're family. Just so sorry, my love to you LL <3.

So sad to hear this, unless you have lost a dog you have no idea how painful it is.
    So sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss, take comfort in he’s pain free and at rest.
I lost two to cancer in a year, possibly the hardest decision I’ve made in my life was giving them sleep.
Run to the bridge lad, my pack are waiting to welcome you.

We wish they could live for ever, and they do, in our hearts.
May the memories of happier times help you through these darker days.

So sorry for your loss LL

I lost my Vizsla earlier this year after a very short and sharp illness. He was only 8. It hasn’t even sunk in yet!

Im really sorry for your loss! It’s truly heartbreaking!

Sorry to hear that mate, I've never had a dog so can't begin to imagine the sense of loss.
  • I'm in tears here tonight, dear Lancs, thinking of the loss of your beloved boy.

We lost our family's 13 year old cavachon just before Xmas & it still hurts SO much....miss him every single day. There is big empty space next to me on the sofa & in my heart. And a big lump in my throat when I catch sight of another looking even just a bit like Jasper.

In our area there are sometimes requests on local social media sites/FaceBook for dog lovers to keep people's pets company for a few hours pw when the owner is at work or has other
regular commitments, and if required to walk them locally. This was something suggested to me and which I might consider at some point...It might be worth seeking something of this nature when/should you feel ready & could even lead to overnighters/holiday care if it suits both parties...Older dogs who can't be left alone for too long are most likely to need this type of support, and you could be their ideal companion. Just a thought.

But only time will tell whether you are ready to think of anything but your dear boy, bless his heart. Such great memories to cherish & such deep love shared.

Sending all my love to you at this difficult time & ferevently hope that you have someone close that you can talk with now. Please try to have people who love you around.

And sleep tight, dearest boy. <3

Best wishes to you Lancs, and RIP to your poor old hound. 14 is a good age, and he clearly had a good life with you.
Ours is nearly 10 and I can't imagine being without him.

I wish I could take your pain away.

We lost our bulldog to an aggressive tumour in February and we’re still grieving.
