A few Charlton got done that day, the black males weren't Reading or any other football fans, they just wanted revenge for their "Bros" who got done! There was a lot of them!
Great night - when I ever think back to this game I always remember a fantastic atmosphere (thought the crowd was 16,000), Killer bearing down on The Covered End and that feeling of absolutely KNOWING he was going to score. We went top that night.
Cracking game, remember the Saints coach going down Charlton Lane and me and Peter Barham giving abuse to them and Mick Channon especially then getting a clip from my dad for being rude. Great night!
So long ago I can't remember how the goals went in but we played them off the park - and all those famous names they had turning for them. As some have already said, Friday night games at The Valley were great.
Dear Mr HOME & AWAY, I really enjoy these threads, but this is the 4th time I've read this. Do you have any new ones, or have we already covered all our memorable games ?
Loved this night, we turned over a really decent saints side. We also did them 2-1 in the league cup either the previous home game or the following one, can't remember which. Sadly, my days as a regular were becoming numbered around the time of this game because my old man was moving us oop north

That was some season for big scores;
5-2 Burnley, 4-0 Chelsea, 4-3 Bristol Rovers, 4-0 Blackburn, 4-3 Luton, 4-4 Burnley (away) plus which we beat the Spanners 3-2! One thing was guaranteed, if you wanted to see high-scoring games, you could rely on us.

My first real season of going on my todd without family. Magical season.
One of my favourite ever games. My memory says Killer scored a goal volleying in from a cross from the left right in front of an ecstatic covered end. Similar to the Hull golden goal but better. By the end Southampton were so shot to pieces and they were watching us playing keep-ball. We used to stand in the Jimmy Seed cos my dad thought he could get out quicker. He was a teacher at West Greenwich school and would pull out any of his pupils who had popped down the away end for what we used to call a bit of aggro.
Funnily enough I was at the Reading Friendly too....wasnt very friendly at all was it....
Not at all. It was a lovely sunny day, a crowd of just over 1000 and probably one of the most hostile games I've been to. The OB put us on coaches after the game and escorted us away.
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]Sorry to be an Anorak and do correct me if I'm wrong Large, but I don't remember the Jimmy Seed stand being built until 1979.
two years later ............. You are right of course Oggy, I meant at the south end of the ground.

Did we not beat them on the Tuesday before hand 2-1 in the League cup?
The season after i am sure we did them 4-1 at home, another excellent performance.
