"Andy Reid may play for the reds, but his heart lies in the blues.

The Charlton playmaker has earned the plaudits for his midfield masterclasses in the Championship this season.

But Reid is also getting rave reviews for pulling strings off the pitch as he is something of a player on the guitar.

The Republic of Ireland star entertained his Addicks’ team-mates at their preseason training camp in Spain.

And he hopes to bring the house down again when he plays his first gig at the opening night of his new Blues bar in Nottingham.

Reid has teamed up with hotel owner Alan Hancock to reopen the Running Horse in Alfreton Road. Nearly £300,000 has been spent on turning the Grade II listed pub into a stylish, student-orientated bar. The pair took over the pub lastyear but have been fighting to get planning permission for the ambitious revamp.

The bar will be renamed The Runner - the affectionate nickname given to the pub during its blues days - and will continue to sell itself around live music. Reid will make his music debut at its VIP launch next month. A host of international bands have also been lined up but their identities are being kept secret.

Reid remains modest about his musical prowess, but Charlton team-mate Chris Iwelumo said: “The boy can play all right. “He blew us all away when he provided the music at our talent night in Spain. Nobody realised how good he was. “I as just going to sing Scotland The Brave, but he got me to perform Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door and it went own a storm. He was awesome. “A career in music definitely beckons for him when he hangs up his boots.”"
