Don't forget that now we're privileged because we're in The Premiership. For most of the existence of The League Cup we had at least one extra round to get through , just as Chesterfield have had to do this season. It's like the FA Cup only that even Championship teams have to play one more round than us. Since we've been in The Premiership we've previously always had a manager who couldn't care less about it, or at least it seemed that way.
No, that's the mistake you made at the beginning, 1hr ago. We have to win three games - like Carlisle, Bolton and Chesterfield. But in previous years it was at least four, hence a reason for the lack of success.
I think in the past we just haven't taken the League Cup seriously, like a lot of other teams it has been used to give players coming back from injury a run-out, as well as allowing some of the kids in the reserves to step up a league and allows some better players to be rested in favour of those who normally start matches on the bench. That and an order to not get injured make the matches, at least in the first couple of rounds, a bit farcial.
