Nope. Reed apparently went to Murray to finish Dowie off and get himself put in charge. That left Reed, with no management experience, in charge of a team of players who knew he'd got the manager sacked so he could have a crack at it. Four points in seven games and a League Cup quarter final exit to Wycombe followed. Les is one of the nicest blokes you could hope to meet and in my opinion he'd be the last person to stab anyone in the back.1 -
Around that time Darren Bents old man was a town cryer re Charlton shenanigans and I was hearing waffle 2nd 3rd hand from him and Reed definitely put the knife in on Dowie (yes he may have deserved it ) and the players were still behind Dowie at the time and didn’t want him gone .
Dowie confirmed this view a few years later with me but still had no grudge against Murray or Charlton but called Reed a snake and he admitted he’d not gone about things the best of ways at Charlton .

Will never forgive him for putting out 10 defensive players against Middlesbrough after we had travelled 8-9 hours on a coach.1
