  • A great, great day....how many other fans have managed to start a chant of 'we want five' at Highbury? Was fairly close the gooners and they weren't happy one bit...one particualrly pleasant chap kept making throat slitting gestures at me...I just kept blowing him kisses, which he really didn't like...was with Oakster and think I remember Smudge being there and maybe Dave Storry in the family bit to the side of the pitch...we were in a 'local' pub before the game without too much aggro... Was shell shocked afterwards and have no idea where we went for celebratory drink...

Looking at it on TV, how on earth did Euell's goal sneak through Wright's legs?

Can we have more days like that please?
  • One of my best memories of being CAFc ever.

Got in their pub (the Gunner???) early as there was Man Utd game on live, they were whinging and whining about Utd and loved the fact Utd didnt win. They were all so cocky. About 12 of us in the beer garden and we got on it big time. Were a bit lippy going to the game, we're not expecting anything out of it and the Arse fans were at their patronising best as always.

The game was amazing, was constantly on the phone to my Arse supporting brother in law throughout and it was just so unbelievable, especially when in the second half we realised we were actually going to win at Highbury. We were a bit pessimistic, the year before (is this correct) we were 2-1 up at half time and playing really well but lost 5-3.

Henry's dive was a disgrace and Arsey whinger would of gone on about it to this day if it was an oppo player who had conned a ref like that.

After the game us 12 or so fat drunks went back to the Gunner (it was sombre as hell in there apart from us of course) and after a few more (too many) pints headed out to the station in full voice, only to see the team coach loading up as we passed the ground. Cue 12 drunk fat feckers getting down on hands and knees praising the players, including 1905 doing the most inelegant re-enactment of Claus' delicate chip over the keeper you would ever see, the players looked scared.

back to London and the rest is mystery as they say, but as always managed to get home eventually.

    Top day out.
  • Remember coming out the ground and seeing Clive Anderson and giving him some severe drink fuelled piss taking.
    It was a great day
  • Great result bad timing 2 days after my Nan died
  • Was just talking about this one last night so thought i'd bump it up.

One of my top five days as a Charlton fan.
  • brilliant memories again...
  • "Stevie Brown
    Stevie Brown.........."

    "Richard Wright
    Richard Wright........"

On the way into the ground noticed that Charlton were 7/1 with Ladbrokes so put £10 on it (all the £1 coins I had in me pocket). After the game the bugger was shut !
And, I'm sorry, but I was the one who started the "Stevie Brown....Stevie Brown......." etc, (I think we went thru' the whole team with that; "Jason Euell....."). Went back with Skel, Farg,Vanders etc to apub behind Southwark Cathedral
if my (lousy) memory serves me right, and ended up in the Dolphin,Sydenham, where Steve the guv'nor (seriously) tried to bar me because of the singing and the fact that he is a "woolwich reject".
  • One of the happiest days of my life. Watched it with my Arsenal-hating Dad. All that side of the family are from Woolwich and had connections with the (real) Arsenal. My old granddad was disgusted with them when they turned their back on South London. Such a joy to watch us spank them.

Heard in pub after game: "Wenger has got to go, hasn't he?" ahahahahahahahaha!
  • Got a spare off a gooner mate from work, so went with him and his mates. Had to sit on my hands when the Charlton goals went in and stand & 'cheer' the Arsenal goals. They couldn't accept they'd got stuffed by little old Charlton, but they were good enough to take me along to their local afterwards and not feed me to the wolves.

    An unforgettable day.

    (Match highlights)
  • When I look at that Charlton line up, and todays, the balance of passion, skill, flair, and belief is something this present team know little of..
How many years before we have another day like this!
  • Watching that video and remembering that day has brought tears of joy.

Thank you L Block JT for posting it up.
  • An amazing game, battered for half an hour but went in at h/t 2-1 up with one shot on target thanks to poor old Dickie Wright. Mention must be said that Arsenal were at full strength, Henry, Pires, Ljungberg et all and we still beat them.

We started to believe when Jensen's sublime chip went in and them Euell's goal brought one of the most memorable quotes I've ever heard from a commentator- 'It's four for Charlton, Arsenal in tatters' from Alan Parry. Strange thing was, Euell didn't run out of the ground to tell his mate, as he had in that mobile phone ad.

At the end I was crushed in a bear hug by Rock Spectacle and nearly had my glasses broken in the process. What a day.
  • 9 years today. :-(
  • Jensen's goal was unbelieveable - when my time finally comes and my life is flashing before my eyes, I think Claus' goal will feature in the highlights, it's etched on my memory.
  • Was playing around with some editing software yesterday and put this highlights video together. Nice memory of that great day! Has a nice little interview with Brown and Kins at the end aswell. Nice trip down memory lane if anyone would care to take a look....

  • Spoke to Curbs in October and said that I thought this was his finest moment.

    How Arsenal didn't score 10 - I'll never know !

    The 14th Nov 2001 was a Wednesday.

    Anyway, happy anniversary!

  • Remember listening to it on the Radio that day & David James (Co-Commentator that afternoonn & WHU at the time) saying that he thought Jensen's goal was an intended cross!!!!!! Kept banging-on about it & later changed it to "I'll give him the benefit of the doubt"!!!!!!

Few weeks later & we put 4 past him in all.

  • What a goal by Jensen !

Can't believe it was that long ago.

  • Jensen's work for Euell's goal was excellent too.
  • Was a great day for everyone putting one over on Arsenal.

    Them times shall return

  • I was there, and how we didn't concede 6 in the first half will always be a mystery.

A defining moment in Charlton history as Deano was the last to leave the pitch, he turned to the Charlton fans and cupped his ear. The Arsenal fans were silent and the noisy travelling support were feeling euphoria mixed with disbelief.

One of my proudest Charlton memories.

How often did Arsenal concede 4 Prem goals at Highbury ?
