That Argos advert does make me laugh though, the one where the fella goes down with cramp while christmas shopping and the woman throws a bottle of water over her head like she's running a marathon... that's what it feels like sometimes
Commercialised bullshit, and it just rams down the throat of anyone who is unfortunate enough to be on their own at that time of year that everything else is all smiles and happiness. It does nothng to improve the mindset of the buy now pay later brigade who think nowt of spending money for spendings sake.
I'm all for kids having a good time at Christmas but the actual meaning of the event takes on less and less meaning each year.
Darlene Love's-Christmas Baby(Please Come Home) is probably my favourite christmas song, Springsteen's version of Santa Clause is very good and Twisted Sisters cover of Come All Ye Faithful is class.
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]So Carter if a doris who woz good lookin approached you with mistletos you would tell her to do one as you can't stand Christmas.Come on son.
No, I would be on her case! But at the same time Steve I probably wouldn't be at the xmas party in the first place!! ;-)
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]wait to you have kids m8 your attitude will change.
I've got a kid and I f**king hate Xmas....
Love spending time with my family etc, and enjoy watching my daughter open her presents, but agree with Carter that I hate the pressure to spend so much money. Even for children is only about how many presents they get.
Its all bollocks as its just a commercial exercise rather than anything else these days.... Just like Easter, St Vals, Thanksgiving, Fathers Day, Mothers Day, Grandparents Day...........Grandparents Day!! WTF!!
Best place to be on Xmas day is sitting on a lovely beach in 30+ degrees of sun....which is exactly what I'll be doing at home in Avalon.....and a bbq in the evening :-)
The ultimate has to be "Fairytale of New York", but I also love "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses and (i'm ashamed to say) Chris de Burgh's "A Spaceman Came Travelling".
