yeah, retractable roof at the ends and along one side for TV and sunlight issues.
The problems with the pitch are nothing to do with the roof, it's down to the way it was constructed, and hence next month the first metre is being dug up and replaced
don't understand why it couldnt be fully retractable though - couldnt have been a cost issue because they didnt care about that throughout the whole process
Don't think they ever wanted a fully closeable roof cause of the pitch, which they then fucked up by putting two layers of the wrong sand down under the turf
Nope, I had it explained to me yesterday, under the turf of all football pitches is a layer of soil and sand, the problem at Wembley is that they've layer two different types on top of each other, which means all the water sits closer to the pitch then it should, and then ruins the turf.
When they relay the pitch in january, there going to redo the soil/sand to make sure it's consistant, and lets water escape.

Or the wrong type of leaves on the track.
Which actually translates into 'the lazy fugging drivers couldnt be arsed to get out of bed'
That's actually the signal failures you're all bullshitted with! Leaves actually can cause problems believe it or not.
