Parkinson last night

edited December 2007 in General Charlton
A good night, if a bit low key, at Bromley Addicks, about 50-60 people there. AFKA won the raffle with ticket 442. This is an omen.

Parkinson (PP) very articulate guy. Feels that he missed out on his apprenticeship as a coach and Asst manager by going straight into managers job at Colchester so sees this as a big opportunity to learn his trade. Didn't seem in any rush to leave his job with us but didn't rule anyone out.

PP thinks the England job should be for an English Manager. More than just the manager though. Feels we need to get kids playing on smaller pitches and cut the must win attitude to encourage more skill development.

Didn't name names but PP said that AP wanted more "firepower" as Toddy is out. AP and RAM working hard on this. Earnshaw was close to coming in the summer but PP didn't say if he is likely target now.

All the players out on loan get watched. "dicko" will outscore any other player in the squad in 7 a side game but sent to Gills to improve his all round game as doesn't yet make runs, close down, etc etc. Very confident guy.

ZZ is class

Worked on defending free kicks and are pushing teams out and using the off side trap more. Sows doubt in the forwards mind if you do that.

Players get fined for dissent and other things like being late and money goes to Demelza and Great Ormond St.

Can't remember anything else of significance. Lots of talk about tactics etc. Working with players esp full backs to make the extra pass to ZZ or Ried rather than pump up to Big Chris. Not what PP and AP want all the time

Can we not have an update on the evening via a laptop for our overseas members?

Haven't they just had an update?

If meetings like this are "broadcast" live then it just means the guests say less.

Did he talk shite with a dour Yorkshire accent, mumble and stutter a lot and keep looking at his notes to remember what he was supposed to be doing next?

Or wasn't it that Parkinson you went to see?
