I do a lot of driving so can only drink occasionally.
Not had an alcoholic drink since c 2:30am on 1 January but that's just life taking its course rather than any conscious desire or effort not to drink alcohol.
Started cutting down my drinking straight after finishing university. Very regularly drink during the week, usually drink when I am going to watch Charlton or England play.
I'm trying to do dry January, been successful so far. Throughout, the year I try and go 4 weeks without drinking and normally fail on the 3rd week.
TBH, I only ever drink when going to watch live football, therefore trying to not drink when it's just me and the old man going to football.
Not drinking and watching both Southend on Boxing Day and Gillingham on New Years Day were painful. Don't think I will be remain sober if we play like that again.
Ha. I seem to remember a similar thread where you labelled everybody on the wagon as "pathetic" :-)
Always do a dry January. Not easy, especially at weekends but I start to sleep better, and generally lose 2-3kgs in the process, and I am not overweight. Tricky thing on that is that you have to fight a craving for more sweet things (such as finishing off the mince pies), apparently that's the body losing its fix of sugar in alcohol.
I still do.
So for how long will you be pathetic, from 10th Jan?
My theory is most people that do dry January are not really pub regulars. Of course there will be exceptions to that but I see it more a case of social drinkers who upped their socialising in December unwinding that and coinciding no booze with a general healthier approach to the start of the year. I doubt @Riviera for example will expect to not see a batch of his regulars for five weeks or have them in but ordering lemonade
I drink two or three times a week, largely in moderation bar the odd session. I don't feel it's having a detrimental effect on my health or my attempts to lose weight so I've never bothered with any real period of abstinence.
Especially if we get any Southeastern issues mate.

As a former pub landlord, I think we should fuck up other industries income streams for chunks of the of the year too. How about no-buying-advertising-ebruary, or not-having-me-hair-done-arch, forget-the-new-tyres-pril, no-milk-ember? You get the picture...
On the other hand I am thinking of introducing "Sty-anuary". Pork products to be eaten every day - Sunday: roast pork, Monday: spare ribs, Tuesday: black pork, Wednesday: bacon, Thursday: sausages, Friday: gammon, Saturday: ham. Pork scratchings as a snack. Getting the economy moving, doing something positive for an industry rather than against it. And it would be delicious.

I drink at home every day of the year apart from this month. I have to do dry January every year to prove to myself that I can stop if I want to.

One reason I do it is that years ago a medic told me that the liver of regular drinkers benefits from an annual holiday of at least 3 weeks as that is the time for it to work out all of the bad stuff it accumulates. I have no idea if that is true. But I definitely feel significantly better after 2-3 weeks. That may be because of deeper sleep.
This is true. The liver continually regenerates but does so much more effectively without alcohol. I believe a six week abstinence is ideal. Then it deserves punishing again.
Around half an hour to go before my first alcohol of the year. Don't normally get as far as Feb 2. And for the first time in years it will be a British pint, and not a tank Pilsner. Got my body fat figure down to 19.5%, but a few days here will soon fix that :-)

My wife came home yesterday with some beers to celebrate. Unfortunately they were Corona. I hate Corona.
Well done those that abstained. Don’t think I’ve ever gone a month without alcohol, could do it of course as I’m no big drinker but fairly sure I’d be missing the pub by week 3

I have my birthday in Jan so will be breaking my drought for two nights.
So if a takeover happens this month i hope it happens on my birthday.
