The January transfer window may have closed, but Charlton boosted their defensive options with the capture of Portuguese centre-half Paulo Monteiro on Friday.

The defender, who has played alongside Addicks midfielder Jose Semedo for Portugal's U21 side, was a free agent having been released by Romanian outfit Farul Constanta

    One for the future or the present? Current central defenders Sodje, MccArthy, Fortune, Bhougherra, Monteirro - Semedo was bought as CD although doubt he could hack it in this division.

    short term deal, no fee, most likely little in wages. Worth a punt IMHO.

    We can't go shopping at Harrods so we look around for a bargain. If he doesn't come up to scratch he'll be gone in the summer.
