My View on Dowie has changed since he has been installed. Did not want him when he was originally announced, but have been won over by the football, the signings he has made, the poor luck he has had, how everything has seemingly contrived to go against him re fixtures & injuries. I have felt genuinely sorry for him, now I am just willing him to succeed. Anyone who questions his appointment now can be rest assured that we would definately been relegated if Curbs had stayed another season & a great mans record would have been tarnished. The re-build is slowly taking shake, patience is the order of the day. Come on Dowie 99% of us are behind you, sorry about the rest.
Similar to the point that Rothko made in the original post, had we signed Andy Johnson in the summer, would the fans that gave Dowie stick at the end of the game last night be having a pop at Johnson every time he scored?

A Charlton fan of course but surely I am entitled to my opinion ? I thought this is what this board was about to make it different to other CAFC Boards. You asked me for my opinion and I gave you it.
I will give Dowie some level of credit as he was left with a poor demotivated squad. He has spent a lot and we are bottom of the league - speaks for itself. I am perfectly willing to give him more time.
what a great question. i used to hate Ian Wright, yet if he had signed for us, i would of been ecstatic.
As said, football clubs to football people are employers, nothing more. And even as a die hard Charlton fan, i'm hoping to get into coaching in the next few years. If i got offered a position working for Millwall or Palace, i'd take it in an instant.

Absolutely, and glad you're not afraid to post your view, even if its the opposite to the herd.
Personally, i don't understand it myself, but i'm glad you feel you state it. I just think you are being either a. unrealistic or b. unfair.

He's spent a lot, and brought well, not his fault that some of them were injuried, unless your saying Reid, Carson, Diawara and Faye haven't made a massive improvement to the squad and team?
The team he's been wanting to pick is now available, and we're 5 unbeaten, is that not the signs of something?
Of course I am not in a position to judge players as for obvious reasons most people on this board will have been to a lot more of the games this year than myself. However seeing Bolton at home and Chelsea away I was not overly impressed with Reid and Faye. Maybe they are playing better now. The Arsenal and Fulham games that I have seen on tv again neither stood out for me. Heard that Reid has being playing well recently and fair play to him. Carson - has been superb cannot complain Diawara - Offered something that Hughes/Kish/Holland couldnt last year I will be voicing my opinions at Christmas, however I do not recall saying sack Dowie. For a start we have no one to replace him. However, I was sceptical about his appointment and we are still bottom of the league. To me beating Chesterfield was not a priority, all about Wigan away on Saturday.

Winnings a habbit, and beating Chesterfield helps that, get a point at Wigan, which after 120 minutes will be a good result, and we go 6 unbeaten, and go to Reading who are struggling, with a decent chance of getting another win.
If you weren't impressed with Faye against Bolton, then I'm shocked, or the assist Reidy played against Bolton for the second?

How could you ;-)
Got to make him right though! Principles are all well and good but until you can buy a pint with em, it's show me the money in my book!
Dowie wouldn't have been my first choice. I would have preferred someone with a bit more of a proven Premiership pedigree if we were recruiting from outside rather than promoting from within. Someone like Dave Jones maybe.
That said though we are Charlton fans, Iain Dowie was the considered choice of Richard Murray and the board so as fans we should back him. I think the Palarse connection has stopped some fans warming to him, also people appreciate the tremendous job Curbs did and miss him so maybe, illogically, Dowie gets stick for that, but I remember the stick we gave Paolo Di Canio when he was a Hamster yet in a season with us he became a legend. Maybe we will warm to Dowie in the same way.
Dowie has made mistakes but to his credit he doesn't hide from them and he had terrible luck with the injuries earlier on. We are slowly improving as the new players get fit and the commitment and body language is there for all to see.
I don't think we can ask a lot more at the moment. I've said for a while see where we are after 15 games and I stand by that.
Reid at Bolton - I thought he looked lazy and gave very little to the game apart from that assist. Looked very unfit. Same at Chelsea away. Although he looked fitter at Fulham and had a cracking shot if I remember rightly. Faye - Didnt particularly stand out for me.
Rather like happens to Kish it is easy to criticise such a player because he will inevitably give the ball away from time to time as they often receive it or win it under pressure.
The Current Charlton Team with Dowie's signings (Carson, Traore, Diawarra, Reid, Faye) would comfortably beat Curbs last season Charlton Team in my opinion.

Speaking for myself I would have liked a more experienced manager but Dowie puts alot of enthisiasm into the job, works hard and wants success. The first few matches have been hard but the team have turned things around, that he came from Palace is irrelevant, he was hardly Palace through and through.
The squad is improving and last night we overcame a very tricky cup tie essentially through the players working hard - as long as Dowie has the support of the players things will be ok. The fans are somewhat irrelevant in that equation. Things could have slid away from us after a poor start but I see us battling away and others have remarked I'm enjoying this season a bit more than most. We have though to support Dowie until he has proven himself out of his depth and that point is a long way off, indeed it may never arrive. The club have appointed him, the club have agood track record in supporting their managers and coaches, the least we can do is the same - it's what I would expect were I given a new job.
Poor against Newcastle I thought but otherwise he's had a good season, and remember he played a couple of matches at CB without looking out of position.
Len makes the point about Kish, and it is relevant, playing in that defensive midfield role isn't about barnstorming performances and defence shredding 50 metre passes and covering every blade of grass but closing down, marking and when in possession keeping the ball moving, he isn't there to provide the fireworks.
Faye has been tremendous for me all season..........
Pretty underwhelmed by him to be honest. The type of player that would get a 6/10 most weeks with the odd 7/10, never reaching the dizzy heights of 8's and 9's. He does a job and is no worse than what he replaced.
Reid and Diawarra are the star buys so far for me. I'm also hoping to one day enthuse about Pouso, who many have writen off after 50 minutes play.
[cite]Posted By: Stone[/cite]He does a job and is no worse than what he replaced.
I think that does him a bit of a disservice.
The nature of his role means that he is never likely to be a match winner, however on his performances to date, I'd say that he is certainly better than the options we had last season. Doesn't give the ball away as much as Kish and puts himself about more than Holland.
Diawara has certainly been the pick of the bunch so far but I am also looking forward to seeing Pouso play.
[cite]Posted By: PalaceHater[/cite]Diawara - Offered something that Hughes/Kish/Holland couldnt last year
I should hope so really. In fact he offers something Hughes/Kish/Holland can't this year - he's a centre back, not a midfielder! This would lead me to think that you've mistaken Faye for Diawara, but then who is the player you've been slagging off in the mistaken belief that they are Faye?
i'm more than happy with the signings he has made. All of them were gambles to a certain extent, but unfortunately that's pretty much what we can attract.
Faye was bombed out of Newcastle, has been solid in an area we wasn't.
Diawara, new country, don't speak language, has fitted in brilliantly
Carson, only really been an understudy, now saying could be future England keeper.
Reid, doubts at first, but becoming more of an influence as he is getting match fit. Becoming our main creative player.
Traore, can't judge due to broken leg. From the bits i saw, i think he will be an addition that wiil improve us at left back.
The two who have disappointed so far are JFH and Pouso. Pouso seemed a bit of a punt, but we are not tied in long term so little lost there, while JFH can hopefully follow up the brace he got Tuesady night. He has 3, if he can manage to sneak into double figures, then he has done a job for a free transfer.
