Have you noticed how he is scoring goals for fun from midfield since Reid left ?

    Yeah no coincidence.

That's 2 midfielders on 9 goals - and thank christ for that otherwise we'd be fooked LOL -

I thought he was excellent in the first half.

I take back my post before Christmas about him being useless - he's definitely improved and added a lot to the team. I suppose a few starts and some good goals has improved his confidence.

Think our Midfield from a scoring point of view has been excellent this season, Reid had Six or Seven before he left, even Lloyd Sam has chipped in with a couple, how many has our most talented player Thomas weighed in with this season, anyone hazard a guess ?

Fair enough Addickted but he's never been useless not by a long way
  • I'd play Cook left and Ambrose right - one can cross and the other can get into the box to put some of those crosses away!

Even in the second half he came back to cut out a few attacks when without him a City player would have been in on goal. Also as he was at the head of a diamond that never had the ball it is really hard to shine offensively

been some quality goals as well not taps ins or flukes.

Still think he is better in the middle than out wide

4-4-1-1 with Ambrose behind Lita anyone? Means we can play with too wingers but what to do with Varney and Gray

i think we should try the
4-5-3 system (if the ref aint looking).

Always makes me smiles when I see the ref at a league or prem game counting the players before KO. When was the last time someone tried to sneak an extra player on at this level.

Political correctness gone mad I call it. : -)

Semedo and Ambrose in the middle on Saturday to give the other two a rest??

    Or too risky?

it's a matter of habit mate to be honest and guaranteed the ref would be marked down if he didn't do it.. At Pro level you'd like to think a team wouldn't a PL level but you never know

    I was thinking the same.

Could be risky to change both central midfielders but then is it any more risky that playing the ZZ and Holland if they are both knackered?

Thought Holland was massive for us last night, however ZZ (and Iam a fan of his) looks leggy

tut tut Tel, we aren't allowed to say that ;-)
  • It is obvious that Ambrose does have enormous talent, his problem has been in consistently applying it and having a tangible impact on games.

My own view is that he is now our most saleable asset (along with ZZ) and that if Ambrose knocks in another couple of goals this season and ends up with 12-13 goals from midfield then there is every chance a mid-lower Premiership side will take him in the summer.

Ambrose is our best palyer imo, every good about Charlton going forward normally involves him.

ZZ is not salable to any EU team AFAIK.

When we signed Ambrose I was in Gran Canaria on a boys holiday and one of the vermin who was there (a yid) was spitting teeth that we signed him above them!!

His words were along the lines of 'he's well capable of getting ten odd goals for you lot'. I like him but to play him in the middle he has to be accomodated by sacrificing a centre forward like with Reidy and the other miserable scouse tossbag we signed.

Ambrose must feel he can't do anything right as he's in the form of his life and not really getting the credit he's due
  • We really missed him second half

He and Thomas were the only two that showed any creativity in the 1st half, should have been there in the second.
  • Well they are our technical/creative midfielders so no real surprise there then.

I know Ambrose splits opinion but to me his positives dont outweigh the negatives. I know there will be a raft of stats about goals and creativity but for me our midfield is already one man down when we start with him.

Ambrose is a waste of space full stop, its no coincedence we played the best 45 minutes for a long while when he wasnt on the pitch!!

Bit harsh mate, he's scored some vital goals this year. First half we were utter rubbish, 2nd half we were much better but hardly brilliant. I'd question Pards' subs though. Semedo had a shocker so he brings ZZ on wide for Ambrose. WHAT?! Then brings Cook on for Thomas who looked dangerous at times.

I have to agree with 'peanutman'

Ambrose is a defensive liability as a general midfield player, last night a prime example. He is also ineffective out on the wing.

However he is a skilful player, who does have an eye for goal, so could be used central behind the striker as his best 45 mins against Ipswich showed at home. Problem then is you have to play 5 in the midfield. The fact is he doesn't track back with any intent to shut a player down which means you won't get away with him as 1 of the 2 central midfielders in a 4
  • Give him a free role just behind a main striker in a 4-4-1-1

Thats a luxury we cant afford. He's simply not consistent or good enough to justify it. I know Ipswich and Blackpool at home but I am sorry taking the season as a whole hes a disappointment.
