Reported that he has turned down both Cardiff and Leeds. A dirty moaning so and so when he played for other clubs but I would see my mistake and realise that he is competitive and committed if he came on loan.
Always saw him as a forward rather than a midfielder so would you have him with Faye and Reid in the middle? I guess he could move up front as well as needed.

personally if it was a choice between jfh and smith i'd definately take smith.
smith is 1 of those players i love to hate because of his aggressive nature but i'm sure if he played for us i would change my view.
i think he is a centre forward but if ferguson sees a possibility for him to be a midfielder then who am i to argue!

I see him that Jason Euell role - attacking midfielder, arriving late in the box rather than an out and out striker.
As for him being an aggressive moaning type...maybe that's what we need. I'm not sure after the Danny Murphy experience that we'd take another cast off from a big club, but if the wages were right I'd take him on-loan from January until the season end then see.
Question is...do rules allow us to have two domestic loaned players and one overseas loanee?
Weren't Carson and Smith at Leeds, Leeds, Leeds at the same time?
Possibly...Alan Smith left Leeds at the end of the 2003/4 season and is now 26, Carson came up through the youth team at Leeds and is 21, and signed for Liverpool in 2005.
Carson only ever made three full appearences for Leeds, from wikipedia :"His Leeds career got off to a dramatic start in January 2004, when he joined the action after first choice keeper Paul Robinson was sent off against Middlesbrough. Two weeks after this incident he made his full debut against Manchester United in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford."
Smith was still at the club at that time so it is likely that they played together in a first team match.
Like most have said on here I always thought of him as an attacking midfielder in the young Scholes mould. I know that he is now used as a defensive midfielder but these stats suggest that he gets a nose bleed whenever he crosses the half way line:
Last goal scored: 10th April 2007 in Man Utd's 7-1 thrashing of Roma. In that time he has played 88 matches "without troubling the scorers" and accumulated 25 Yellow and 2 Red Cards.
His last goal before that? 19th November 2005 for United against us.
And the one before that? 1st May 2005 against us again.
So that's 3 goals in his last 137 matches, two of which were in our net.
How he must wish that he got to play us every week!
LOL. They are my thoughts too to the point that work think I have it in for him. To be fair though, his limitations have been somewhat exaggerated since he broke his ankle against Liverpool.
I think he injured Rufus once resulting in rufus going off and then got Rufus sent off, pretending that he had been stamped on - a criminal in my eyes.

Would allow us to use JFH in the last 20 minutes when I think he would have more impact. That's what he did with Boro last year.

You may or may not notice - I am not a fan
