I used to work in the Black Horse in Sidcup and I used to serve him from time to time. Always brought the barman a drink. Good lad in my book. I was sad when he played for Millwall.
Can't understand how their attendances are so low when absolutely everyone I seem to meet from south east London and North Kent claims to be a Millwall supporter. Only one of my mates who claims that actually has actually ever had a season ticket.
Jamie is 38 yrs old now and still looks very fit. Was very committed last night and gave his young team mates exactly the right mixture of encouragement and rucking. Margate seemed a good bunch...players, management, supporters and one black dog....all were a real credit. They've got a very eccentric supporter who keeps up the same Margate mantra throughout the game and Jamie made sure he went over and gave the fella a big hug at the end of the game.
For the record, Hendon won and are now in their first league cup final for 28 years. Last night was a great advert for Isthmian League football.
Used to come with me for a few games and stand on the north bank when we were over at Upton Park. No memory of him being a millwall fan, though could well have been.
Played same junior team for a few years, nice lad. Think he just got matey with a couple of lads at the wrong age and without the guidance that young footballers get today.
I seem to remember him starting off pretty well, but then tailing off at an alarming rate, culminating with an Easter game at home to Luton, where the crowd really got on his case. Think he was a better full back than Basey, but certainly not a Championship player.
Wouldn't say love @wmcf123 but as a Sidcup lad, people always have an interest in local lads coming through whether they've had connections or not.
To me it all seemed to happen very quickly for Jamie. He wasn't in any way one of the kids I played with who had pro potential so his advancement between 16-19, which led to England 18 and 21 caps, must have been huge. Probably propelled him too soon to a level just above him, however he is still doing it at 38 and has racked up 500/600 apps at a decent level, huge respect for that.
Nya memory must be fading as he actually had a decent bit of pace when Young.
I remember thinking Stuart looked quicker than Sturgess, whom he effectively replaced, and whilst no greyhound I don't recall regarding Sturgess as exceptionally slow.
Basey on the other hand.....
which was a shame because Grant could read the game and had a sweet left foot. If that thug Blizzard hadn't crocked him he had the physical presence to play at centre back and the skill to play in midfield but we will never know.
I have just recalled a true story involving Jamie Stuart, from when he was watching one of his pals play for our Old Boys Fourth XI down at Hall Place. As usual they were short of players, and Jamie ended up helping out, with nobody else on the team really knowing who Jamie was etc. If I recall correctly he ended up playing up front, and scored five or six goals (this was during his drugs ban). As he walked off after the game, on the long slow trudge back to those awful dressing rooms that Hall Place used to have, our wizened old Bristolian 4th team skipper hurriedly approached Jamie and said " Well played young man, now are you available next week, because if you keep playing like that, I can see you making our 3'rds by the end of the season!".

No criticism, sir. I have a lot of affection for the players from that era, given that I started going to games in '93
After Minto , Barness and Sturgess he was never gonna be good looking enough to make it for us at left back He always looked a bit " heroine chic " to me

Unless you know more about his private life than I'd be letting on I think you mean heroin

@fattmatt I used to drink in there around '73 to '78. Possibly the only bit of civilisation in Sidcup.
Jamie was in the same youth team as Lee Bowyer, Jason Tindall (Bournemouth) and me for a while i played district football with him for 3 years and he was a really nice guy. Bloody good player at that level too.
Last I heard Gary Borrowdale was coaching at Greenwich Borough too
Jamie was in the same youth team as ... Jason Tindall
I know Jason Tindall was a youth player for Charlton. Charlton had another youth player called Tindall in the late fifties(?)/early sixties(?), a centre-forward. Any relation?

He was with millwall at the time and said what a thrill it was to play for the team you support.
