I have to say condolenses go out ...

I was reading some to the emails from the Pink Oboe list a few days ago, and a few people were coming down hard on Lampard for taking a few days off to be at his mothers bedside. There's a match to be won!!!!!!!!

Bill Shankley spoke a load of bolloxs

I agree with your sentiments but to be fair to most on the list, my recollection is that one person was critical and everyone else leant towards your, and every other reasonable human's, point of view.

Fair play, and of course condolences to the whole family, but would anyone actually care if it was a mediocre league two midefield players mum, let them grieve in private and keep it out of the papers.

Firstly like everyone, condolences to the family.

without tangenting on this thread, the trouble is the media pamper to the public's obsession with "celebrity" which of course both Frank and many of the Lampard and indeed Redknapp family are thought of as, so of course they won't not report this and leave them alone

Just a sign of the world we live in, not right in my opinion, but the way of the world.

Condolences Mr Lampard - a fine young man who was obviously brought up well by a fine woman as most mum's are.

I spent the whole night willing Liverpool to knock outwhat i perceive to be the key destroyers of our modern game.

And then Lampard stepped up for that penalty, and i wanted him to score more than anything in the world.

Well done Frank, and bless you for your loss.

Both games were enjoyable. Thought last nites game the teams would cancel each other out.

Lampard -- yes in took balls. So does going back to work for anyone after the sudden death of a loved one though.

Credit to him for playing in a high-profile match and to Grant for starting with him - especially as he hasn't trained much recently. But running around a football pitch is hardly working in the same as going back to an office and in some ways it might have been a help to him - work the grief off a bit rather than dwell on it.

I always thought he was being at best semi-serious with that remark.

the lady in my life asked me the other day when I was trying to explain how important some matches are in football.

What if we were getting married and you were in the cup final - er I wouldnt arrange a wedding for that day.

What if we were about to give birth, what would you do? Tricky one.. I would leave during the game should it look likely I replied.
