West country holiday cottages

Can anyone recommend any websites where i can find a cottage to rent in the west country?

there are so many of them, but some of them look a bit dodgy. Dont want to end up staying somewhere that resembles a Turkish prison!

Helpful Holidays has some right cracking places - and they're really friendly service-wise too.

We stayed here a couple of years back. It was bloody lovely and they'd even baked us a cake as a welcome!

    wish I was here now!
  • just going through them all - looks good.

I tell you mate, if you want a week completely away from it all then I would whole-heartedly recommend it - middle of nowhere!

It sleeps loads so you can always go with someone else and split the cost, cos it ain't cheap. We went one week after the kids went back to school with our little un and the price was about half what it was the week before. Taught him to swim in the pool, went out the back and watched the sheep and pheasants, strolled down to the lake - not a soul about!

No such luck this year as he's now at school - our budget is the same but you get a lot less for your dough in the kids holidays!
  • £2.5k for when i was looking to go!

    booked up anyway until September

take him out of school,i do every year due to work (busiest times during school holidays selling school unifirm and foot/rugby kits).2 weeks out of school won't kill them.
  • If you can book direct with an owner or through a small firm you will probably get better prices.
We have stayed twice in Port Gaverne (virtually Port Isaac) which is a great little spot by a little cove with a really good pub close at hand, if you are interested here are some cottages there ....

I have had a number of places from them over the years, some posh some just functional. They've always been OK.
