Two out of work ex-England managers looking to get back into the game.

McClaren pros: For a number of years at Man U and Boro was seen as one of the most innovative coaches in the country. Done a respectable job at Boro. Has spent his time out the game trawling Europe and learning new coaching methods, so would have good contacts book.

McLaren no's: Laughing stock after the England job, bring unwanted poor media attention, umbrella would block half the Lower West's view.

Hoddle pros: Again, decent club record, likes football played open and attractive. Reputed excellent technical coach. Working with lesser named players who may listen to his coaching could work wonders, a la Swindon. Point to prove.

Hoddle no's: Serious nut nut. Been out the club game for a while. Plans to turn Bartrams into a walk-in healing centre

REMEMBER: You are voting on who out of the two on offer you would prefer to be Charlton manager.

    I've gone for McClaren.

He messed up over the England thing, but you don't become a bad manager overnight. Certainly worth a place in the next round i reckon.

Hoddle i'm sure could do a great job at Championship level, but needs to get back in the game quickly.

I voted for McClaren, he's a decent club manager and would do well in the Championship - can't see him surviving the second round of voting if he beats Hoddle though.

Hoddle all day long. I know he said some terrible stuff but again, that does not make you a bad manager over night. Quality player as well.
McLemon was a complete dick. Had no idea on doing the job (England) himself and had to reply on others even at Boro.

Bit like a rock and a hard place that one

Hoddle because I thought (Batty and Ince in the same midfield aside) he did a decent job with England and got us to the tournament he was charged with getting us to
  • Hoddle, couldn't bear to have that umbrella holding nomark here... did so well at boro... all those Gibson millions and millions and millions may have helped?
  • I would have to say McClaren. I think SMc is overated, but I can't stand Hoddle.

yes, because he did great at Wolves and Southampton....

quoted from wiki re Wolves: "They were also one of the lowest goalscoring teams in the division scoring just 50 goals in the league all season. "

    Go on Big Mac.

It's like being told you are having an arm cut off but you can at least choose which one.

I went for McClaren. Hoddle is one of those managers who is always looking for it to be someone else's fault and I can't stand that.

McClaren - great coach who fecked up for England. Whereas Hoddle has fecked up for England and at club level. I first remember him (as a coach not a player) at Swindon, and us playing them at West Ham. Swindon played some lovely football, ball to feet etc, but our somewhat more direct approach triumphed - I think we won 2-0 - goals by Minto and Nelson IIRC.

When in fact WE played the good football not Swindon.

Minto finished off a good passing movement to score.

I voted for McClaren as the lesser of two weevils (Master and Commander joke)

I voted Hoddle. Real football managers should be out in the rain getting soaked, not hiding under an umbrella.

McLaren - he succeeded in getting mediocre performances from a mediocre bunch of players who think they are much better
  • i cant believe the mclaren votes the man turned our great countryinto a joke i can not believe i witnessed the umberella let alone the rest of the world having to view it.

he was tactically niave as england coach and should have achieved more at boro you can not tell me that those games where boro won by 4-3 or 5-4 whatever they in the european games were hreat tactical battles by maclaren.

the man is a clown as for hoddle the lesser of 2 evils but he is cack also

    Hoddle.

If hadn't have said them (sic) things, he'd still be England manager and we would have probably won Euro 2000 and World Cup 2002.

Can't understand why Chelsea don't have him back.

I'm not sure either would be totally sutable for Charlton.

However we have to choose one or the other so I choose Hoddle.

Mclaren was a chequebook manager at Boro Steve Gibson giving him millions. Charlton is not a chequebook club and Hoddle's experience at Swindon and Southampton, neither of whom are rich, would make him a more suitable candidate for Charlton than Gene Kelly singing in the rain:-)
