For me it was Robert Lee - horrible realisation I was getting old!

At least I'm still younger than Pards...

That's a tough one to answer!

Graham Tutt comes to mind but I'm fairly sure he isn't the first!
  • Either Bowyer or Dean Chandler

    Kevin Nicholls in 1996/97.
  • harry arter at Luton in the league cup if we're counting all competitions

grant basey in the Championship if league only

    (both in season just gone)

then followed by Wagtaff, and Shelvey (when it started to get silly! going to barnsley paying to watch someone three years younger than you, and you're still under 20!)

Think I'm with the Bowyer crowd on this one - remember shouting at him something like "Go on Lee son." and then realising that I was actually older than him, and it was ok.

Depressing though isn't it, when that realisation sets in?

I found that the definition of getting old as a player in sport was when people no longer called me "son" and I suddenly heard myself calling younger players "son."

Makes me feel old when you hear a young player naming his boyhood hero and you remember the hero starting his career!
