You've gotta to ask what is the point in playing Johnson out of position? McLaren has learnt nothing and if we needed to throw Johnson in an important match, McLaren wouldn't know anything about him as a Centre Forward.
All in all, another appaling England performance IMO

Are we sure he is any cheaper, my view as was pointed out in the papers this mornign he paid £3.5 million for Michael Ricketts?! I think he was poor at Boro and lucky to survive, only a year ago Boro were bottom/near bottom of the Prem. I don't think he has been successful at all and he takes that to England.

I listened to the 2nd half on Radio 5 on the way home from work.... nearly went off the road when Graham Taylor said "I like Robben, he stays on his feet". WTF?!?!?!
all the pre match talk up by Mclaren about AJ made me want to vomit I just wonder if Bent had been his available option then he too would have heaped such praise. At least Bent can play out wide, score from open play with head and foot, has incedible speed and is still scoring in an underperforming team

Nah, it was only a friendly, it's not like it mattered what the result was. It just gets up my nose that when Johnson gets messed about by the England managers and so doesn't perform to his potential, the media are all sympathetic about how he's treated, whereas with Bent there's this undercurrent of "he's failed to take his chance, so should we really give him another one?"
I didnt want him to score but in all honesty he got called up to the squad because of how and where he plays for Everton. Why not give him the chance to do that for England?

You are kiddin right ! Not havin a pop at all WSS. The Only team he has played against in the world top 50 was Croatia, how many did he score ? How did he play ? Sorry strongly dis-agree with the 'seen his goals per games ratio' statement. Some of the friendlies like Jamaica & even the competitive ones in this qualifying group the opposition has been on a par with Non league class. Also when he plays (World Cup in particular) made England look one dimensional. Fills same space Rooney does, adds very little value to team apart from sling it in the box when we are 0-1 down. Glad though you dislike him as much as me though WSS.
Sorry guys have been in a bad mood all week. England on top of what's gone on at CAFC this week has pretty much made me a very unhappy chappy. Will try to stick to positive stuff from now on.

I too think Crouch should be nowhere near the england team, and has been extremely lucky with the opportunities he has had, particularly against 2nd and 3rd tier opposition.
England and McLaren were a complete embarrassment last night. What he said about AJ before kick off made me spit with anger. If I was little Bent I wouldnt bother answering the phone from that complete jerk. As for the match itself....??? Friendly or not, I have seen more skill displayed on pitch 376 on Hackney Marshes on a cold sunday morning than what I saw last night. The fans (Dutch and English) should demand a refund.
04 mcs - I never once said Crouch would score 49 goals did I. I can't stand Crouch either but if Darren Bent had crouch's record for england agaisnt the same teams I think yuor attitude would be different wouldn't it.

All i was sayin Arf was that you cant compare lineker and crouch, which you kinda did by bringing gary into this topic sayin that he scored most of his goals against crap oppo! You cant put them 2 into the same sentance.
ps, for the record, i dont think Bent could 'do it' for england anyway, as i think no one can say they can or have indeed 'done it ' for England, because they are rubbish and have not and will not win anything.
